Thread: Kodi on Ouya

  1. #1

    Kodi on Ouya

I am currently running XBMC (Ouya app store Version) on the Ouya.

I was wondering if this is how most people are using XBMC app store version or should I install the new Kodi version. If so what is the benefit?

Thanks, I know this might be a noob question but I am just trying to learn more.

I use the store version. As long as it does what you need, I wouldn't change it. Last time I tried Gotham I ended up losing more then I gained in what I needed. If there is some feature that you need and they include in the new version then go ahead and look into it. But if the store version works for you, and you have no reason to upgrade other then to do it, I would say stay with what works.

I have trouble streaming some content from iStream, says content is unavailable, but not sure if thats a problem with XBMC or the addon?

I use KODI and will not use the OUYA version since it does not have DTS/AC3 support. I've barely had any issues with Gotham and Helix (Kodi) is even better!

I second what Eldon and Martini-o said. I use Kodi now and it works amazingly well, with proper controls and decoding but if the store version is working for you, then I wouldn't worry about changing it until it no longer does what you need.

On top of what everybody have said, I use Kodi because it can play and stream at 1080p 60fps. Also, it plays ISO files and x265 videos, though at 480p. But it still plays x265, which makes me happy.

How well does it do with x265? I would imagine that puts a bit of a strain on it since it has to decode the x265 via software and not hardware. Care to post the codec specs of the x265 files you tested?

Would it be possible to sideload Kodi while keeping the OUYA Store version of XBMC installed? So 2 versions would be on the OUYA. Or would that cause problems?
