Hey BeatX, she must really want your game, we can't get 2 words out of her about anything else on the forum

Yeah, Killswitch, I played DDR a lot with friends in high school. Played it a little here and there before I got the OUYA. I'd love to have it without having to drag out another console and brush off the dust. My friends would love it, too.

Then maybe I could actually get good at the higher difficulties....

I guess the whole thing about rhythm based games comes right down to exactly what is it that you are want or expecting out of that game? Is the player expecting a complete package relying on the dev-team to provide all content? Or is the request tuned for people which already have the knowledge and know-how to transfer content into a rhythm game 'emulator' of sorts such as Stepmania? Because I fall into the second catagory.

I want more of a direct port of Stepmania because the two programs pre-compiled for android on the google play store do not look like they can be setup for doubles and versus mode (which is also why I have not purchased them on google play. I am going completely off of the screenshots of the game in the stores). Both also do not look like they support animation or background FX support. Or character support as I like to make my own characters and inject them into the backgrounds of my songs while I play. I got two cobalt flux pads rigged to an I-PAC controller which is nothing more then a fancy keyboard box that MAME users like to use giving lag-free keystrokes to my PC version of StepMania. I did hook my I-PAC up to my Ouya box and it happily accepts it as a keyboard. So no problems there. Stepmania does however accept controllers in both the PC and linux versions which was always hit and miss because if you used a USB<->Playstation2 adapter it would be lag-free on one pc and the next pc you hook it up to had a terrible half-second delay!

However, i'm also a bit of a realist. and after reading a lot of stuff on the Stepmania forums there was a major fallout in the direction Stepmania wanted to go into beyond v3.9 in terms of skin functionality and where the project was going. I'm not sure if it was an ego clash or simply a loss of interest in stepmania because Rock Band was the next biggest/coolest thing, but a lot of people left the StepMania dev team.. They're still going but not at the speed they used to program at. There has been attempts to transfer Stepmania to the Raspberry Pi and one person figured out all of the GL-ES conversion however hit a brick wall with accessing the sound card on the Pi. This is important the Pi version gets built because if you can get an application working in an environment like the Pi which is an ARM processor running GLES because the leap to Android becomes more realistic.

BeatX plays sm/dwi files with all the negative BPM gimmicks, stops, holds and rolls - there are background effects since last month and i pushed versus/double mode just today. Video background anims are coming (still have some trouble with those) - more features depend on the time i have for the project - just a single dev here.
I agree - it will never be a 100% stepmania port, but i'm pretty confident you WILL have fun playing the game

No lags here - after a good audio delay calibration you can hit marvs within .002 sec - what more do you need..
You can connect the dancepad using USB-OTG cable on most android devices.
I have Google Android TV (ADT-1) hooked up in my livingroom which runs BeatX with one dance mat and one gamepad
You can bind Gamepads, Keyboards (via BT or Cable), what ever you like..

Ohh! Since you got the versus/double modes I will download it on my Google Play rooted Ouya then. Functionality was the biggest thing holding me back from it. Thank you for that. And if you ever do decide to release it on the Ouya Marketplace. I'd pay for it no problem. I'd throw money at you at google , but it seems i can only do it through the IAP which doesn't work so awesome on the Ouya It gets a little crash-happy when you attempt to purchase anything on a Rooted Ouya. Typically If it's a pay-for game I would pay for it on my PC via google marketplace. and then download it on my Ouya afterwards..

As for the videos. It appears a lot of people in your reviews section that seem to want the same thing. Is the video problem dealing with trying to handle so many codecs? If so how about just limiting it to something like mp4 for now? People who mod games know how to use handbrake on animation files to whatever format like I did with stepmania on the original xbox (it was only 700mhz, you had to convert to .mpg files to avoid framerate studder)

Double and versus modes are full version only. But the in app billing is transferred to all of your devices so if you have an android phone and unlock there it should work.

I know that background vids are very requested, im working on it. Its not trivial to render opengles over a video player and the codecs are also a bummer. I will get this to work eventually, im just currently stuck waiting on some issue tracker replies ..
