the port would be done in a 2-3 weeks +

more like 10 months full time

@ BeatX, If you seriously plan on bring it to the OUYA, Write Up a professional proposal and send it to OUYA asking for some finical support. However, In my Opinion your time-frame seems a little bit off, If the game already has an android builds systems, spend WEEKEND getting the OUYA controls working(Don't have to use the ODK, just use android native libraries), then release it as early access/beta, then polish it on your own time-frame.

    - Runs Great on Android TV (Nexus Player or the ADT-1) and NVIDIA Shield

Do these controls aready work with the OUYA?

I say you go with kickstarter and ask for whatever amount of money you require to release the game. That should also cover Ouya console cost. I bet a lot of fans will support it. Probably $9.99 for game purchase when you release it on ouya and from then release dlc for extra cost. I wouldn't imagine people not wanting to support this game.

As for side loading the game via the play store it doesn't work because google won't let the ouya open the store. it will just take you back to whatever you're trying to open it from.
Also a mirror program worked to download the game and it let me open the game but as soon as it opens google says it requires an update and you get two options: open google play store or browser. First option doesn't work and second option tells you: this browser (OUYA browser) is no longer compatible with the play store. So the game does not work for those reasons

The Play Store should open if you have the system rooted and the proper framework installed. I do not use it myself but many people here do

I'd say kickstarted. My ouya does not connect to thr google play store so sorry. In kickstarter all of the people with their eye on this game will be able to keep an eye on the donations so far. kickstarter

I wouldn't do a Kickstarter for just an OUYA port of this. Throw in adding features to the whole Android game, allowing you to get funding from other Android players too, would be more beneficial. In that, BeatX, you can see about getting time off of your contractor job for sure to focus on the game by covering a much wider base. If you were to do one at all, that is.

But I agree with Ezra. I use a framework which has not yet gotten to work with the ODK, and I can get a move-by-controller square up in very little time. BeatX, if you could provide a test apk of some sort for us to give a go, maybe holding just a single wimpy level of the game or something, or even just some sort of button test thing, just about any of us could give it a try. We can install apks right on OUYA easy. (I understand not giving up the whole game freely in this circumstance.)

As it's been shown so far, if you really set yourself to putting it on OUYA, people will jump in. There's people making icons, people doing voice acting, all sorts of talent helping out OUYA devs and fellow players here. It's nice, something more valuable I think than money thrown around at something in my book. But I don't do what I do for a living, but as something worth living for, so that's me.

Anywho, in the meantime guys, I think if we can find someone who has Google Play working to give it a go as BeatX was curious about, let's do it. If there's someone trying to get Google Play to work but can't, find the appropriate thread for it or make a new one. With a little time, effort, and patience, surely it will get figured out.

Though I do think a whipped together test apk, if not too much trouble, would be a more widely testable thing.

    Hi,
i think you misunderstood - it took me 10 months full time till the android release was ready... the port won't be so much effort.
I'm still devoting all the time that i can spare for new features of the game and bugfixes/support. That's why are the few hours that i need for the port so spread to 1hr/day => 14 weeks

The controls should work out of the box as LibGDX has a native support for OUYA controllers - the problem is licensing, the one time payment for full version unlocker and leaderboard integration.
+ i never made something for ouya so there will be some hassle

Yes.. if i do kickstarter it would also be for new features, new levels, not just for ouya port + when some money reached - making the game completely free.
There is no issue what so ever with the controller support, or other assets,.. i could maybe use some voice actor to record Announcers (50, 100, 200 .. combo e.t.c.) but that is not a big issue since you already can use stepmania announcers.

I don't distribute my apk by any other chanels but google play market.
If i find that there are enough users willing to pay for the OUYA console, i will buy it my self. There is just a certain threshold has to be reached.

For now i just need a simple test by someone who has a rooted ouya with google play installed to see if it's even remotely possible..

The Fox is right, actually I don't find myself disagreeing with her much at all... People here would help with things that are needed. I posted a simple thread looking for 2-3 voice actors, I now have like 10 or 11 including myself. Needed some art assets and have 3 guys who helped out though it looks like I may need a 4th for something that got missed, something that may cause a full change to the GUI. I have a coding helper who is now a member here though we're Unity so that wouldn't help with LibGDX.

So if putting it on OUYA is a genuine consideration then I'd open a thread in upcoming. People will show interest or lack thereof.

Huh, I guess I misunderstood what you were worried about, but I'm not sure I get that particular concern. Android should work on Android, which OUYA runs. My move-by-keyboard square tests tossed inside an Android apk setup, after throwing in OUYA controller key codes, worked for OUYA. No other changes whatsoever. For "see[ing] if it's even remotely possible" is a bit extreme, I think, in the least. Not sure why it wouldn't be possible...?

But I guess you could just want to see for seeing's sake? And that's fine.

An apk, as I said, not the apk. To be clear. (I guess parenthesis explanations don't always clear up everything. ) Just a whipped together test that doesn't include the whole game. Some people here give out test/alpha/beta apks for others to test to help them out. But if you don't want to do that, that's your choice. Okey dokey.

Not much more to say then, I guess. I know where my money sits. We'll see what happens and hope for the best.

Like i told before - this is not about controller support but other features that are bound to android market - licensing, in app purchase for the full version unlocker, google leaderboards - these won't work if there is no google play market and google play games (NO, i don't want to drop some features and have different game experience on different devices - that is always bad)
Also download intents might not work e.t.c.
Controllers is the least problem i have here.

By testing it on rooted ouya with google play installed i wanted to figure out if OUYA can handle the sound/arrow timing - android is a serious mess in the code base here, and it just might happen that the timing just won't be satisfactory. If not - there would be no reason to port the game to a 3+year old hardware with custom launcher - you get the point....

Again time is the essence here

Yes. I did not mean controller support either, as it not being about things like controller support is what confused me.

    So moving on.

    OK.

Yes. I think those things will work if you use a Google Play version in a Google Play setup, but not if you actually send your game as-is to be published in OUYA's Discover store, which is not connected/affiliated/etc. with Google Play. So testing it through Google Play wouldn't really give you the answer.

Purchase check, need the ODK. IAP, the ODK. Leaderboards...I don't know that one.

OK, that's your opinion, but your game.

As someone ready and willing to buy it on OUYA, I'd rather have a DDR or Stepmania game than none, and the bonuses in comparison to the originals are things I don't really care for. But it's your work. Your game.

OK, clearer info there. Good. If you want to wait and see for that particular thing, okey dokey. It's what you want to do.

So again, we'll just have to see what happens (tested or not) and hope for the best.
