Be sure to use a powered USB hub - passive ones haven't worked for me in the past!
I've got the opportunity to showcase my OUYA games inside a local gameshop, and would ideally like to use 4 xbox360 pads to connect to it, as opposed to wireless pads which could easily get yoinked. Anyone tried this and been successful?
I'm thinking 4 Controllers -> 4 TO 1 USB HUB -> OUYA should work.

Note that this will NOT work with Gamemaker games - any usb pad connected is seen as the same device ID under android.
We've had really good luck with this type hub and 4+ USB controllers and encoders.

You haven't had issues with that octopus hub?
It's not XBox controllers, but I've used 4 wireless PS3 alongside 4 wired Logitech F310 controllers at the same time without any issues. We do 8 player Bombsquad games all the time this way.
I have the wireless USB dongle for Xbox 360 (made for the PC I think). Works perfect and can connect 4 Xbox controllers at once.
I think a cable screwed to a wireless controller would be more secure than a USB cord if you are really concerned about someone making off with them.
