    BootyCall - Eldon McGuinness

    INTRO

If you know me, you know I love using XBMC as an alternative launcher and there are many people that would love to use another application as a default launcher as well! The biggest problem with replacing the OUYA launcher is getting an application that supports it, but that issue is no more. With BootyCall you can give your OUYA the ability to Boot and then Call what ever installed application you like.

    What Does This Mean For...

    Media Users:
This means you can start XBMC as your default launcher if you use the device as a mediabox. No longer will you need to worry about users being bumped to various other applications if the media application crashes or if someone accidentally decided to exit it!

    Retro Gamers:
If you want to use your OUYA as a retro gaming console then you can start Nostalgia automatically. This is great for all you OUYA powered cabinet makers out there as you can boot right into your gaming front end and bypass the OUYALauncher. Want to make a DonkeyKong specific cabinet, or perhaps a NES cabinet? This application will let you load right into those applications and get your game on!

    Developers and Expo Attendees:
If you're a developer at a game show and want your OUYA to start right into your application automatically, even if you exit the game, then this is the app for you. Now you don't have to worry about people exiting the game and delving into the OUYA soul and mucking about, this instead will keep them in your game, after all that is why you're there right.

How Is This Different From Autopilot/Boot?

Autopilot and Boot only work on the initial boot of the OUYA, after that if you resume your OUYA from sleep or use the OUYA in-game menu to exit a game you will return to the OUYA Laucnher. BootyCall will return you to your application of choice during these situations as well. In addition the application can wait for a USB drive to be mounted before loading your chosen application and will even start the OUYA pairing screen if your controllers need to be paired.

What is this Complete Action Using message?

When you install the BootyCall application you will be prompted with a popup by the Operating System, it will ask you what Action you want to use to complete the "Home" action. If you plan to use BootyCall for every boot then select BootyCall and then Always. This is totally reversable by following the steps in the "HELP! I set the "OUYA Launcher" as my default launcher and selected 'Always'" section just select BootyCall instead of OUYA Launcher in the "ALL" list, OR by simply uninstalling BootyCall.

I Found A Bug or Something is Broken!
Sorry to hear that, but please take a moment to fill out a [ Support Ticket ] and tell me about it! Please make sure you include what version of the application you are running, this can be found in the configuration screen, the screen you get when launching BootyCall manually.

What Languages Does This App Support / Localization

I am open to adding in any languages that people are willing to translate the strings into, if you are interested in lending a hand then please take a look at the strings file attached [ Localization Pack ] and feel free to pm me or attach a conversion as well as the language it is in. So far we have the big 5 covered ( Italian, Spanish, English, German and French) as well as (Brazilian Portuguese coming soon), but feel free to take a look at them and offer corrections if you have any. If you want to do any other languages please let me know as I would be happy to include those as well.

HELP! I set the "OUYA Launcher" as my default launcher and selected "Always", how can I start BootyCall as my default launcher again?
Don't fret! This can be resolved by clearing the setting under Advanced Settings. Follow the steps outlined in the images below and get back to your regularly scheduled BootyCall! After you follow these step you will be prompted on the next reboot or if you select EXIT from the OUYA Menu Overlay (Double Press of the (U) button )

    Select "Manage"

    Select "System"

    Select "Advanced"

    Select "Apps"

Scroll to the right until you get to "ALL" and then select "OUYA Launcher"

Scroll to and select "Clear Defaults"

[ Screen Shots (Imgur Album) ]

    [
Push it to your OUYA now, because Eldon says so! ]

    Beta Testing
If you would like to help test the latest version then please use the link below and sideload it to your OUYA! If you're participating in the Beta program then please report any issues via a support ticket and remember to post what version you are running.

hey eldon! unfortunately my old translation is included, not my revised one. and there are a lot of new strings that weren't there before, producing wild english / non english texts.

Ok, I have updated the strings.xml and will send PM's to the people that helped me out with the translations and see if they mind helping to translate the missing bits. Thanks for the heads up!

I don't know if this is because of the way you submitted the app to Ouya Inc. or if it is a firmware issue, but on Discover I see BootyCall as FREE (no asterisk) and only once I start downloading it the BUY option appears.

EDIT: It happened also with another app, so it's likely a firmware issue. If the problem persists I'll post in its thread and write to Ouya support.
Most of the time I keep my OUYA offline: please consider it before inserting a phone-home/always online DRM in your game. If you still plan to do so, please declare it. You don't want pirates, I don't want to be frauded.

Yea I have noticed that as well, I'm not sure why it does that. It looks like only Premium apps have the price listed, and since my app does not offer IAP, other than the license, the in-app purchase bit does not apply either. It might just be a misunderstanding as to how OUYA worded the options OR how they anticipated them being used. :/

    Awesome app, thank you Eldon!
this has been keeping me happy by auto-booting into nostalgia (and thus avoiding the chickcharney update which is giving me a headache atm)

    a couple of questions;
    - i grabbed the free version, does the full app have extra features?
    - does bootycall recognize apps stored on usb?, because i had to move nostalgia over to internal storage for it to be seen.

Hey Vato and thanks for giving the app a go!

The free version is a demo that will be fully functional for 7 days, after which you will need to purchase it in order to keep using it. It is currently 33% OFF unil Nov. 17!

"i grabbed the free version, does the full app have extra features?"
Nope, the demo version gives you all of the same options as the paid version, I want everyone to be able to test and know what they are buying!

    - does bootycall recognize apps stored on usb?, because i had to move nostalgia over to internal storage for it to be seen.
Yes! It will see any apps installed on the OUYA be it on USB, Sideloaded, or Internal. I have Nostalgia on USB as well and it it is showing up in my list. Did you check the list before the OUYA had finished loading the disk by any chance?

ok cool, thanks for the info, it's gonna be a definite buy for me =)

and im sure you're right that i didnt wait long enough for the list to load (or i had my usb unplugged)

a bit off-topic and maybe out of your realm, but ive seen your reroot app (wish i had a working lappy so i could effectively use adb to utilize it) but a one click un-root app would be awesome.
