Try restarting your OUYA with the HDD connected. Some HDDs seem to only be recognized this way after the last ota.
Ive had a toshiba canvio 500gb hooked up to my ouya since Jan. It worked flawlessly. I haven't messed with it since June, as I only use it for dreamcast emu. I turned it back on this morning as I had an itch to play under defeat, had some unavoidable updates, and now it cant read the ext hd. Was there something in those updates that did this?

You could try an app like stickmount. Your OUYA needs to be rooted though and either have the play store installed or make a backup on another device and transfer to your OUYA.
Occasionally I've had problems with one of my HDDs not showing up. Usually a few restarts fixes it. I also usually unplug the HDD for a few seconds before plugging it in and powering on the OUYA. Probably not necessary but seems to help sometimes.

First off, hook your HDD to your computer and make sure that it is working there. If all is fine, then power the OUYA down and unplug the power cord. Plug the cord back in and the USB drive and boot the OUYA, see if that helps.

to be honest i dont remember...i tried also the paragon ntfs app and couldnt get it to work or load properly...it seems like there is no usb slot at all...ive been reading for the past couple hours with no luck. But if i plug it in the laptop i can see all the files
Any chance the enclosure has a power cord? If so are you using it? I have one that will sometimes work without the power cord, but for stability it is best to use one if ya can.
