Thread: Subnet mask

  1. #1

    Subnet mask

Hi I have lodged an email with ouya support for this issue but maybe someone here has an idea.
The issue seems to be the sub net mask is set to 255.0.0.0 and I cannot seem to change it... I believe this maybe the cause of an issue I have streaming to the ouya from within my LAN.
I have tried setting up a static IP with subnet of 255.255.255.0 on both a WiFi and Ethernet connection but whenever I view the network setting page in the ouya menu it shows the subnet mask as being 255.0.0.0 .
Has anyone experienced something like this and managed to fix it? Or anyone have any more suggestions?

Doesn't sound like your OUYA is picking up an ip through DHCP.
Do you have a gateway listed?

Could be a router issue if you aren't.

Can't speak as to what the OUYA Launcher shows, but my OUYA has this
    Code:
    shell@android:/ # ifconfig eth0
eth0: ip 10.0.1.22 mask 255.255.255.0 flags [up broadcast running multicast]

Crazy, I've suddenly got exactly the same issue. No matter what I set (DHPC or static with the correct subnet), the Ouya reverts to using 255.0.0.0. Obviously this plays havoc with connecting within the local network for things like Plex and Limelight. Tried system restore, flash stock firmware etc, same issue. Gonna go unplug it and have a poke around. I'll comment back if I figure it out.

Quick update: did a little digging and it seems that, as Eldon posted, my subnet mask is actually set correctly when you look at it through shell. Turns out my issues with Plex and Limelight were unrelated. So as far as I can see, its just a visual bug in the launcher for me. Sorry I can't help more.

OK thanks for checking... I'm not sure how to sort this out then... This came about when trying to setup xbmc and mediabrowser 3.
@Eldon.McGuinness how do I check the IP settings as you have?

Connect via USB or wireless ADB then type:

    adb shell
    ifconfig eth0

Have you tried a system restore yet?

EDIT: Might have spoken too soon. Still having dramas connecting to MyPlex and Limelight auto discovery. Basically anything that uses different ports or thats a non-standard internet connection. Driving me mad. Honestly, I think I'm just going to give up on the Ouya, buy another ChromeCast and wait for the new Google TV. So many headaches and just no documentation or support.

Out of curiosity, have you got one of the new black Ouyas? And/Or played around with CM11/custom boot.img recently?

@baxy, Other than the fact that you not seeing the right broadcast address, what is the issues you are having?

@TehCrucible, Just seen your post on the official forums heh can not wait for the Exit button fix too! What issue are you having with auto discovery?

I've been toying with the idea of building my own custom launcher, but I didn't want to commit until I knew this issue was going to be resolved. As for my network woes, it seems to have started after playing with CM11 yesterday (which incidentally doesn't work real great on the new model Ouyas). I've since reverted everything back to stock firmware and that's when the issues started. The internet work fine however anything that relies on custom ports fails. So with Limelight, it won't detect compatible PCs on my network (yet it works fine on other android devices in the house). Not such a big deal as in Limelight, you can just enter a manually enter an IP and that works fine. With Plex, I cant login to myplex. So again, it kind of works anyway because it will still show content from my local server but without myplex you lose a lot of functionality.

I don't believe its an issue with network infrastructure as it worked fine before yesterday and nothing has changed on that front, but for the sake of argument I wen't and tested different routers, cables etc. Nothing has made a difference. I've only noticed the issues since I noticed the incorrect subnet mask issue so I'm inclined to believe the issue lies with the Ouya itself. I'm just stumped as to what to try next.

custom ports work fine, I use port 8080 and 8081 on my device all the time. It could be the port number in question requires root <1024.

As for plex could you give a bit more info on that issue?

As far as I know, the ports being used by both are in the 30k range. But besides that, I have the root on the Ouya? In regards to Plex, I'm not sure how familiar you are with the software so forgive me if I'm not telling you anything new but the software has a web login called myplex that facilitates remote server connections and social features. If you don't login with myplex, you can still connect to a server on your local network, you just don't have access to any of the premium features and some of the user orientated features. In my case, I can view my local servers content fine. But when I try to login, I get an error message saying can't connect to myplex and thats it. I've tried on the latest Plex from the Ouya store and also the very latest apk directly from Plex, same results. Both versions worked fine before this network issue cropped up.

Here's a logcat that I uploaded a few minutes ago to help out the developer of Limelight with some input debugging. I'm still going through it, if you scroll up there's some fatal exceptions relating to Plex but I'm still trying to make sense of it. Perhaps you can help?

Hold the phone. Just sorted it. Ignore my above post. It's completely unrelated and now I feel like an idiot lol. The system date and time was wrong. Because the myplex login is https, it was failing. Problem solved. So it looks like I'm back to it just displaying the wrong thing in the ouya launcher settings. Thanks anyway for trying to help!
