Thanks DrunkPunk, I'm going to look over that guide and give it another shot later.
I put a little guide in my review here: http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?...-Pier-Solar-HD
If that doesn't help I'll do my best to get you through here. When you talk about the first boss, do you mean
And you said the normal enemies in the forest are tough; are you guarding with everyone who can't attack the flying enemies?
Thanks DrunkPunk, I'm going to look over that guide and give it another shot later.
Here's a tip for you. Never run from battles because the game was designed to have you fight everything. With that said, the damage you take trying to flee might as well be used in order to attack the enemy and gain experience. Furthermore, don't forget to heal in the overworld by using spells.

Rich, I'm not one for hand holding and tutorial in games but if you look up Pier Solar there are guides. The game is pretty much a direct port of the original game when games were meant to be hard and there were random battles and all that.

DrunkPunk, RiotingSpectre- thank you for the help. I used your tips and finally have taken down that boss! It felt good. My main was that I was not defending in battle and healing in overworld. I still have to pick up the leaf accessories. In all my years gaming, this is going to be my first JRPG. Just bought, looking forward to it. Thanks again.
No problem at all. I'm glad I could help.
As some of you know, I bought this game not too long ago during a sale. However, soon afterwards, I was hit by DRM which I lamented was pretty poor of WaterMelon (the developers) given that an always-online console that's infamous for having poor Wifi connection thanks to the OUYA console's construction was erroneous to put it lightly. I support DRM & what it stands for, but sometimes it's better left unimplemented because it will only serve to create a lose-lose situation for everybody. I asked for a refund today for the $8.99 I spent on the game and got my refund almost instantly.
Apparently there's an update on the way that may remove the DRM, but even if it didn't have it, then I wouldn't want to play Pier Solar HD anymore. In this thread I noticed that a lot of people had problems when it came to the game's lighting. Things were too dark to see and it was impossible for people to progress. I was thankfully one of the few people who didn't have this problem when experiencing the demo, but I was hit by a completely different issue that also pertains to the game's aesthetics.
Pier Solar HD is a beautiful game and it goes without saying that it really shows what people can do given enough time. However, the game has a lot of areas in it that are obstructed by the visuals which makes progression very slow if not impossible to the point where I had to look up a walk-through on the internet for. I don't need to convince you how annoying and unfun this is, and it's this problem alone is what convinced me to get a refund. Something that no other game; even Unearthed: Trail of Batutta which I woefully reviewed could have done before it. Simply because Pier Solar HD is unplayable to me opposed to a game like Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Batutta which is horribly put together, but still technically playable.
In the end, I'm disappointed. I waited a long time for this game and I wish this issue was exclusive to me, but a quick search on the internet will garner the same feedback from a lot of other players. I hope that members of this forum are unaffected by this issue and can continue enjoying Pier Solar HD. I wish I could join you, but it just wasn't meant to be.

I hear ya on the dark bits! The very first cave got almost undecipherable at times due to the darkness. As for the DRM I'm with you. I'm waiting to see if the latest update fixes the DRM. If it fixes it then I will keep the game, otherwise it is refund time.
