Build it Up - Water Bread Internet

This thread is for the discussion of Build it Up. Note to the developer, if you wish to take over this thread please let me know.

Build it up is a puzzle game, enabling you to build structures based on blueprints presented on screen from building blocks, by operating a crane.

Ever imagined how it would be to build something? Now is your chance, operate the crane from cabin and build various structures based on the blue prints.

    What you can do:
    + Earn experience
+ Unlock new projects to build,
+ Improve previous ones with new blocks,
+ And earn budget to dispose unneeded blocks,

All to achieve perfection of creating structures exactly as in blue prints.

    You would need to
+ Plan ahead when building a structure
    + Place blocks correctly, diversify
+ Resources are limited, dispose blocks wisely
    + Experiment with block sets

It is like tetris, only building real buildings and structures.

    Fun little game!

One thing I noticed though, some of the tutorial prompts still have "Hit X" instead of having the OUYA contoller "O" button.

DrunkPunk thanks for reporting, will fix with next addition of levels.

And the game is in 67 position of O-Rank, which I think is great, I actually would have not guessed that puzzle would do so good on OUYA.
Expected Fire TV to lean more on Puzzles, but downloads there are just a small little fraction of OUYA downloads, not talking about conversion.

but I can not find how the rank is calculated, any hints?

It is a trade secret with exactly what the algorithm is calculating but there are hints. It is based on engagement metrics. Things like how much time it is being played, if it is the first game played after turning on the OUYA, how often it is launched, etc. in real time based on what all users are presently doing and comparing that to the rest of the library. A good way of thinking of it is that when you are playing your OUYA it has a kind of spyware that is watching how you engage the games, what you are engaging the most is like your votes, everyone's votes together determine the present winners, and them being presented back to us as the O-Rank is like a democratically formed list to give everyone else suggestions of what to play because it is what the people as a whole finds the most engaging/fun.

There has been a desperate need for puzzle games here, as there are actually very few that are solid like this. So I can certainly see a demand!

@Schizophretard thank you for explanation, that would explain why first game with more downloads did not get that far, while build it up with less downloads got up really quickly.

@Kaimega I think you are right. For all of this time, because of games published on OUYA I thought that the demand is mostly for action games, but it seems it is quite opposite. It is hard to come up with puzzle game that would work great with controller (you probably need to eliminate all match3 games, as they are really painful to play with controller, same probably goes for word games and all touch based physics puzzlers.)

Here is the video I found pointing to what @DrunkPunk said and also some other design flaws we will need to fix, probably adding OUYA button names to onscreen controls and making block selections more obvious

It sounds like even though fewer people are downloading your new game, the people who do are playing it a lot more! Folks must really be enjoying it.
