Regarding Personal Issues with Other Members and/or Staff

I have been watching some things over the past few weeks and there are a few things that will NOT be happening. Period.

We have a system here for upvotes and downvotes, this system has been getting abused lately for people's personal issues. It is strictly for post votes only. If you like a post then upvote it, if you don't for some reason you can downvote it. But do not sit there downvoting people for your personal reasons. Do not downvote someone just because you don't like them for some reason, it will be monitored and the appropriate action will be taken if this continues to be a problem.

Another issue is voicing displeasure over a staff action. If you broke a rule, then a mod will give you a warning and/or infraction, it's their job. They don't get paid, they are volunteers and they should not be harassed for doing their jobs. If you have an issue then take it to PM, period. It is not something that is for open discussion, I don't even know why you would want to do it in the open anyway when it will not end well for either side. No one wants to give warnings and infractions but if it's necessary then it's necessary. If for some reason you think there was a mistake or want to talk to an admin, it's within your rights but do not continue to post about it in the forum.

People don't have to like each other but we have to get along if we're going to be here and keep this one of the best communities there is. It isn't hard to be civil if you don't agree with something.

The downvoting issue is a annoying problem because there's a handful of members (whom I know the names of) that are downvoting anything a particular person says regardless if it's actually a problematic post. This coupled with members (whom I'm also aware of) are downvoting any and all posts that aren't one-hundred percent positive regarding the OUYA platform, OUYA Incorporate, and the OUYA scene in general. I delete all the abusive downvoting I see including the votes that I got in my "Hey, OUYAForum" thread where literally all the posts made by made got downvoted for no reason. That person in particular in our worst offender and if I see them pulling anymore abusive shit on anymore posts then It's not going to be pretty.

Furthermore, I'm really tempted to just remove the voting feature altogether because as said here I'm very aware of what problems could come of it with some of those associated problems happening already. I really don't want to remove if just because of a few sour grapes but I will without hesitation when the time strikes. Regarding the other issue, I'm just going to ban them for a week if they act out coupled with infractions being applied. If they do it again after coming back then I will ban them for a month with even more infractions to follow. Do it again after that and it's forever.

The ones causing both issues are veteran members who know better and therefore get punished more severely.

Is it possible instead rather to only have an up vote option?
I'd hate to lose this because I like to up vote posts I appreciate, or responses to topics I agree with but can hardly just respond with 'hey I agree with everything this person said'. I recognize its fault allowing the downvote to be abused but I'd hate to have those doing good suffer because of it or be left unable to vote up posts in a positive manner.

If you couldn't remove it's actual functionality, wouldn't there at least be a way to edit its template to remove the '-' button? (Not familiar with how this boards plugins, etc work only what I've done on my own phpBB board)

I want them to be changed into yes and no instead of + and - because it would literally look like it is answering the question,"Did you find this post helpful?" The + and - give the positive and negative connotations of upvote and downvote but yes and no don't have those. There is noting positive or negative about answering yes or no about if you find a post helpful. It has no "up" or "down" to it. It is just literally and neutrally answering the question.

Not possible without a add-on of some kind which is out the window since Eddie can't ever find time to install things these days. I have limited the amount of votes members can submit with it being three votes per twenty-four hours. That should cut down on the grime.

Edit: I found the super-obscure option to disable downvoting. Hooray...

And I just tried to upvote this and got the "You may not vote on any more threads today." You fixed it and broke it. LOL!

Yeah, I might change that restriction to something greater but not at the moment since I'm curious as to what results it will bring with the current settings.

I already know what the results of the experiment would be for me. A few minutes after logging on I will get,"You may not vote on any more threads today." everyday.
