    Controller Monitor - Eldon McGuinness

    Never be left unpaired again
If you have an OUYA and use an alternate launcher it is likely you have been bitten by the little inconvenience of needing a keyboard to pair a controller to your OUYA. Controller Monitor is a service you can use to ensure, regardless what launcher you use, the pairing screen is launched when a controller is not detected for a set amount of time.

    Intro
Controller Monitor is a tiny service that monitors your OUYA for a connected controller for a configurable amount of time after boot. If a controller is linked to the OUYA before the timeout period then the application exits with not even a whisper. However, if you do not have a controller connected, the service will the start the pairing screen for you and you can then pair your estranged controller as needed. This application also attempts to power on the bluetooth adapter during each cycle, just in case you get one of those odd boots that does not turn on your bluetooth adapter by default.

Well that is fine, just turn on the controller and press (A) to exit the pairing screen as usual.

Controllers Known to be detected by this application

    • OUYA Controllers
    • PS3 Controllers
    • Logitech USB Controllers
    • Phillips USB Controllers
    • Know of more? If so then let me know so I can update the list.

Where can I get this lovely app?
Since I don't much care for the OUYA store, you can get the application directly from my blog. [ Progressivethink.in :: Controller Monitor ]

    How much is it?
This application is being released as beerware, if you like it and find it useful then please consider buying me a pint via the donate link on the application's download page. If you hate it...well...then don't

I'm not into side-loading but this sounds super handy. I'm surprised the time-out for when you don't have a controller synced to the console isn't shorter because when stuff like this happens then you're waiting around seven minutes for the sync prompt to show up. It's without a doubt a thing needing to be worked on by OUYA Incorporate but in the meantime I see this becoming a good way to unofficially remedy the issue.

So you finally got it up and going. Looks good knowing how you went through THOROUGH testing and everything to make sure it works. Unfortunately, as you know I'm not into side loading so I won't be the target market but looks like it could be very useful.

Yea, this is mainly for the sideloading camp, since those running a stock setup can just wait for the OUYA pairing screen to come up. On the other hand, as RS mentioned, this does allow you to configure that time out so it might have advantages for stock users as well.

It should also ensure users don't run into that bluetooth is not on issue that RS posted about. Really, since it is a service that you never need to interact with after you install it and run it the first time, it should be an app that everyone looks into loading. Nothing but a benefit I think, but don't take my word for it...

PS3 controller shuts off the Bluetooth when it is plugged into the USB port, will this "turn on" the Bluetooth again while the controller is still plugged?
    Signature Pending...

I don't personally have one to try it with, feel free to give it a go and let me know if it does! It really depends on how the system actually turns off the bluetooth. IF it is done during boot and IF it is turned off before the OS signals that booting is done, then yes it should indeed turn it on. But those are a lot of IFs.

I installed this last night. Left the settings at default. Later on I was watching a movie on xbmc and it exited out to the pairing screen. It was almost exactly at the 14 min mark so I'm guessing the controller went to sleep after 10 minutes and then after 3 min of no controller being connected this app brought up the pairing screen. I uninstalled and went back to watching the movie and didn't have this happen again.

Sounds like you some how got an older copy that did not have the service properly terminated, which caused it to respawn. Try to pull the latest version from my blog as that issue was already resolved. I will double check the version I'm hosting to ensure it is not an old one.

NOTE: I added the version number to the main application screen, if the version you install does not have it then you are not running the newest version.

Cool, I'll check what version I had before and try to get a newer one. I did download it from your blog.
