There used to be a live feed-ish new activity box on the right of the forum, but it was removed. Never used it myself, just the new posts link when it chooses to work properly.

Yeah it worked when the server was able to handle it, not sure how it would work now but might be something to consider.

I figured it was just too much of a drain and that's why it got canned.

The server was always able to handle it. Eddie simply removed it since it wasn't being used very often.
