Restoring OUYA back to new state?

Another newbie here...so far the OUYA is awesome!! Got it this week and am having a blast with it

If I installed a bunch of apps and decide that I want to go back to a clean state, is the factory reset option act like a system restore were it brings the OUYA to a complete wipe of data and as if it"s fresh out of the box?

Does and can the OUYA get corrupted sometime like in a reg PC were this needs to be done...except in this case there is no restore CD, so not sure how this is done.

    Thanks!

    Yes it does.

I have not heard of one getting corrupted from a Factory Reset yet. I would say you are very safe.

Thanks. So factory reset wipes it clean and restores to a new state correct?

No, it doesn't. Some files stored on the internal memory stay untouched after a factory reset. You don't get your 5Gb of free storage on the internal memory back just by doing a factory reset. My guess is that you have to use a custom recovery and format system to have the Ouya back in new state.

    I stand corrected.

I would venture to guess that the files which are not touched don't add up to much though, and for a normal user just wanting a "reset" of sorts as Kenny seems to, then the normal factory option is sufficient.

NO! Factory reset works the same way that it does in any other android device. It wipes most common user accessed areas but many others remains untouched.

With rooted Ouyas things are worst because many apps installed as root will survive but some files are deleted, so the system goes crazy.

I dont know an secure way to put the ouya in a zero state, but if you dont use rootd apps and dont sideload and just stay with official (and for me, boring) games then the standard method is enough.

    Hm thats problematic for me.

I want to sell my Ouya in a few weeks via Ebay and wanted to completly restore it to its initial state before I do that. I was mostly using my Ouya as a media device and for emulators and now I have a spare notebook connected to my TV which exceeds the Ouya in both. And my Ouya is of course rooted. Is there any step-by-step manual to completely restore an Ouya to its initial state?

I have posted a ticket with Ouya as I also am trying to do this w ith another thread. I cant believe Ouya would put this unit on the market without a recovery process in place? Its one of the most basic things when preparing a product for release almost manditory if you want to keep a good reputation? Could you imagine if everytime android on you phone crashes you TRASH the phone, or a Windows PC for that matter?
