    Saying Goodbye

    Hello Forum,

First, I would like to say that I enjoyed my time, spent with you all. This first OUYA year has had its share of ups and downs but sadly, things are ending on a sobering note. As many of you know, my OUYA console died a few days ago and I have been trying to find a way to replace it. Sadly, a replacement does not seem to be acquirable due to my console being just shy of two weeks out of warranty. Even worse, I was just coming out of another support situation two weeks prior. Maybe I should have been a bit smarter and created a reason for a RMA before the warranty ended but I tried to play things fair.

Quite frankly I'm in the middle of a major move and I can't just go dropping money (full price) on another console without proper justification to my significant other. Ironically, I was beginning to say that OUYA was the first stable Android device I have ever owned. Most Android devices I have purchased only lasted 6 months at best. My last phone lasted 1 year but was a total crapfest once 6 months rolled in. I had plans to push forward with more episodes of OUYA Nation once my family and I moved into our new home next month. Additionally I was going to continue artwork on my OUYA exclusive game and try to find a coder so we can tag team the release. All of those plans are up in the air.

What do I do now? I'm honestly not sure. I really wanted to stick with the OUYa platform for as long as it lasted but It's kinda hard to stick with something that you don't have a console for. You don't go reading PlayStation news when you dont own a Sony console and You dont go reading XBox news if you don't own a Microsoft console. Same rule applied to OUYA. I don't want to be constantly reminded of the major loss I have just experienced. With that said, I plan to stick around to the end of the week and maybe more if something positive happens. For now this is an advanced goodbye. It's been fun!

    Sincerely,
    Lighty Kid

I have given that some thought. If I do go that route, it would be another 2 months before I could buy one. Right now I'm planning to let the support situation run its course. I'd imagine that a final word on everything will be made on Friday.

You are a huge part of the OUYA community, and it's sad to see you go, if only for a short while.
I wish you luck with your move, and I hope you like your new home!

    Lighty,

Thanks for all your contributions to the forum and Ouya community in general. I wish you the best of luck and I hope to see you back in the community once you get your life sorted. Best of luck with your move!

Hey Lighty, hate to see ya go and hope there is a way you can return in time. Is there someone in the community that could take over any voids such as the OUYANation in your absence?

I understand completely. My console is also on its way down the drain so I'm feeling a bit of the same, but I'm sticking around because I have so many fun projects running regarding the console. I hope you'll find your way back someday (or hopefully don't leave at all), good luck with the move and the new place!

In regards to OUYA Nation I had planned a proper return next month so we still have a few weeks to get things situated. Something tells me that the show and brand wont be gone for long. I really enjoyed this community but I'm also tired of being burned by this console. I'm sure some OUYA rep is reading this so let me get some things straight.

    1) I STILL believe in OUYA Inc. and their ability to achieve their goal of a open console that everyone can develop for.

    2) Overall the system was a great experience, if the following bugs can be eliminated, the current console and the next one would be stellar experiences: Lack of proper support for large hard drives, the occasional wonkyness when plugging in a new USB device, the lack of proper power flowing through the console. I think the system really needs a proper power brick.

    3) I DON'T want to be out of the game for long. I have money invested in the platform via games, studio props, art and recording equipment. Hell, my dream of finally releasing a game worthy of my effort and storytelling is riding on this console. Yes, I know Android TV exists but I view OUYA as the more stable and better platform.

    4) Technically I have 3 projects that I want to bring to OUYA, Bubblegum Pop (my beat em up), Chick Fight (my all female fighter) and the OUYA second screen experience that I was close to finishing before my tablets went wonky (JXD devices are great in theory but NOT stable). The plan was to work really hard on artwork for "Bubblegum Pop" once I got my in home studio set up. The character models for "Chick Fight" are pretty much done and until I can get a proper workaround for my JXD tablets, the second screen experience is on hold.

    - Well, that's all I can think of I'm trying to stay positive right now but I'd be telling a lie if I said it was easy.

    @LightyKd,

Just keep working on your OUYA projects. Ambitious projects take a very long time to finish, so work on what you can and hopefully everything will get sorted out in time

PS. whats wrong with your OUYA, maybe some soldering or heat-gun reflowing will fix it.

Thanks for the kind words. I totally forgot to state what was wrong with my OUYA. Sunday night my OUYA froze. Upon a power cycle the console stopped displaying any A/V. Additionally the power light will not illuminate and the only thing I can hear upon plugging in the AC adapter is the fan spinning. I have had a few power up issues similar to this before but they were all resolved with a simple unplug/replug. -not this time
