A Little more advice from a slightly disapointed user:

Be sure to buy the latest hardware reléase available, especially for native OUYA controllers, because any implementation before the latest one (firmware ends in x0104) was very buggy.

I have two OUYA original controllers with firmware x0103 and i suffer from lags, analog sticks noise (you release the analog stick but the controller keeps sending movements to the OUYA) and is barelly imposible to play multiplayer games because the Bluetooth interferes with wi-fi. Oh! and the controllers firmware is only upgradable at Factory, so you will end sending the controllers via mail so keep an eye on this. You can read in this fórum how to see the firmware versión of each controller (altough is not easy to ask a seller to open the box and shut up the system to see).

And for the full HD display i have reduced (with a hack) the OUYA resolution to 720p (1 Mpx) and now all is ok, but in 1080p (2 Mpx) i suffered glitches and freezes reproducing many .mkvs and playing emulators, but no problems with OUYA optimized games.

The negative is you can buy a Shield that has over twice the storage, over twice as powerful, more game support, market options and a highly rated built in controller. Plus is portable, touch and controller interface, with phenomenal battery life and has a console mode if want to use a monitor or TV with external controller.

Seems a no brainer if looking for an Android gaming and media device.

Nothing negative about the Ouya, since good device. Just IMO not the best option.

    What app did you use?

Shield is $199 and the OUYA is $99. Makes the deal for me. I want a console, not a handheld that I might keep plugged in at the charger 24/7 for what I want to use it for. Also, no wireless controller? And I'll end up buying expensive games etc.

    On-Topic;

The controller problems and lag is solved now, right? Also the WiFi vs Bluetooth interference, how is that going?

The Bluetooth and wireless issues are reportedly solved more or less completely in the black and white models. The aluminium models are fine for most people now, and the exceptions appear to have more to do with local interference. Some people who still have trouble report they can take the same OUYA and controller to a friend's house and have it work flawlessly.

As for the suggestion of only getting the absolute newest controller... not a bad idea, but it's an exaggeration. I have three controllers, each a different revision, and all of them work fine. My second newest controller is from back in October. The oldest has a slightly bigger dead zone and had the old issue where the face plates won't sit flush and need replacing. It's otherwise fine, no lag for me. I'd say avoid the oldest ones and you should be okay. The older ones have a pure silver finish, while the others have a very slight red or purple tint to them. The very newest have concave thumb sticks.

Generally, an Ethernet cable is recommenced for OUYA for performance and stability reasons. I haven't heard about lots of people having Wi-Fi/Bluetooth conflicts for several months now, but if you can use Ethernet instead, then you won't even have to worry about it.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "otherwise you wouldn't have come here."

Regarding the credit card requirement, unless I remember wrong, it asked me for either a credit card or the digital code for purchased game credit/points.

Yeah, just go to target and get a ten dollar Ouya card, and that'll get you started. The Ouya is far and away the best console to get if you have kids. Xbmc with fusion is enough to get you to cut the cable cord, I'm in love with my little silver box.

The young kids I know love Nintendo and the older ones love playstation or xbox and niether want anything to do with the ouya. Far and away sounds closer to fact than just your personal opinion. I have an ouya that goes unplayed by my own child and other kids in the family that come over, they do fire up the 360 though.

So your subjective experience around children represent fact while trizznilla's subjective experience around them represent personal opinion?

Its not about deciding what is fact or fiction, I am trying to help. This thread is to help answer questions and help prepare people who don't already have a ouya.

Saying far and away leads people to believe something is 100%. I would hate for someone to come here trust our members, read far and away and purchase a console only to have the same results as many others.
