    Ouya Create Jam: Acorn Assault

Hey everyone! My team and I just submitted our game last night for the Ouya Create jam. It is a match-three turn-based game with vicious squirrels wanting to protect their nuts. Think Triple Town meets Pokemon Battles. After each turn of placing your pieces down, they attack the enemy. The better you are at figuring out offensive or defensive patterns, the stronger you become. The real strategy is planning your placements because when you match three or more pieces, they merge to become a stronger piece. It is a two player game, and we have an option to allow the user to play against the computer or a friend. Play against the computer to get comfortable, but the AI isn't all that advanced yet. Playing against a friend is where the real fun is.

We want your feedback, so we made a web version of the game so you can play it even without having to install it on an Ouya. If you have an Ouya, we have an APK you can download and play it on your big screen. Wherever you play it, we want to know what you think. Let us know what you like, what you don't, or what you think would be a cool change. This will be morphing into a full-fledged game for the Ouya some time after this game jam is done so the more feedback we get, the better we can make it.

There are likely to be some bugs in the game because this is a prototype, so expect that. We have done our best to make it as bug free as possible with what time we have. Check out our trailer and play a few rounds!

or click here for the latest version of the Ouya enabled APK.

    Thanks

We updated the web player version of the game. The boxes now reset their positions and orientations when starting a new game. But, the bigger change was to the computer's AI. It was pretty dumb before, so I gave it some more logic to use. I played the game a few times last night and the computer beat me once, I beat it, but it was close, and then I beat it by a long shot. Let me know if you think about the AI right now. I feel like it is more difficult to beat, but that's a perceptual thing.

Also, we have a newer version of the APK available for download, just follow the link in the original post if you want to update it. You can now move around the game with the d-pad along with some other improvements!

Wow, that game is great!! I really like it!!

And I think it looks pretty great too! I can't wait for it to have fun music in the background!! =D

I think the AI was pretty decent, I still won by a landslide though Might have been beginner's luck hehe.

I had some issues with the web player not registering most of my clicks by the way. I had to click several times and move around the cursor a bit to be able to click on a tile. No big deal though.

    Great job!!!

Thanks Kiwicoco! The full version will definitely have some fun background music.

As for the AI, I have played it a few times again and it definitely needs some work. It just happened to get some lucky draws when i first tested it. So we will be bumping its brain a bit to be more clever.

And thanks for letting us know of the bugs. We'll try to squash the big ones when we can :-)
