There are no sound controls on the controller. Some games and apps provide sound controls within them. You can also go into the advanced menu settings and adjust it but my suggestion is what I do and use your TV remote.

My OUYA is attached to my LED TV and the volumen is extremelly louder, much more tan the other two game consoles i have attached to the same TV. I also have a wireless USB Keyboard with TrackBall conected to the OUYA and the keyboard has standard keys for volume UP and DOWN. When i press these keys the classic Android volume slider appears and the slider goes up and down, but the OUYA audio output remains equal. I believe that the Android volume control in OUYA could work over speakers if they can be connected directly, but as the OUYA sound goes out digitally over the HDMI cable you must use the TV remote, as i do. Other HDMI connected equipment can adjust the volumen without problem so this could be an OUYA issue.
I am really concerned with volume control for XBMC....sorry for the miscommunication.
There is an option to change volume and even amplify it in XBMC while watching videos.
I think the (U) button on the Ouya brings up this menu.
Click on the speaker icon and this will pop-up. From there you can adjust the audio for the video.

Sluup: Yes, but it's a hassle. When I watch a movie I have to press U, then push several times to the right, to get to this menu. Then one more time down and then I can finally control the volume. If I compare that with my XBMC iPhone App, where I can change the Volume with one tap, it's really inconvenient.
Are all the controler's buttons already used? Controling the volume with the lower shoulder buttons would be bliss!
Other than that I have the problem, that XBMC sometimes has no sound and I just have to move the volume slider a couple of pixels, to turn it back on. It seems to be a bug, since the volume slider is not completely down. Whenever I have that volume problem, the Ouya system sounds are also turned down, so I am not really sure now, what causes it. The Ouya OS or XBMC.
