Thread: Astraea

    Astraea

    The official thread is here.

Astraea is an open ended multiplayer sandbox game that lets you build a town, run a farm and make lots of friends!

Astraea is in early development so many things will be added yet! Here is a short list of existing features!

    - Build your very own town and have villagers move in!
    - Gather resources (wood, stone, gold)
    - Plant and harvest crops!
    - Raise your own animals! Cows, Chickens, Goats, Sheep and more!
    - Online multiplayer! Visit other players towns, or have them visit you!
    - Full Oculus Rift support (PC and Mac only)
    - Cross Platform! The game runs on a boat load of platforms and your town can be saved online (so you can play on your PC then play on your OUYA later!)
    - And many many more awesome things are coming!

    Here is WIP video ...

I've been developing this game primarily for PC's, however earlier today I decided to make an Android build and try it on the OUYA. Turns out it runs and plays pretty good! I'm curious if the OUYA community would be interested in a game like this? Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome!

This sounds like A great game and its already got so much going on! Did you ever think about maybe local co-op as well? The ouya can utilize up to 8 ouya controllers at once and 2player would be fantastic I know my fiance and I would toss some cash your way for it.

Thanks for your comments! I am all for local co-op as well, however I suspect the OUYA won't be able to handle it. I will definitely try it, but if it doesn't perform well, I'll have to leave it out.

Is that an asset set? Looks familiar and if it's the one I'm thinking of then you shouldn't really have issues with Ouya handling things.

Yeah I picked up a bunch of assets when there was the cartoon sale. It's provided an excellent starting point!

Yeah with one player it ran fine, I'm just suspecting local co-op might not run well. I could be completely wrong though ( let's hope )

If you look at Stellar Ghosts it runs fine, there are more optimization posts in the dev section on this subject.
The biggest thing seems to be 720.

Interesting! Thanks, I'll look into that then!

The biggest issue I suggest looking at if you do plan on local co-op is shaders. If you set up shaders right then you will have little to no problems (take Stellar ghosts, and other games like Neon Shadow and Brotherhood of Violence, for example). Polys tend to be fine when it comes to OUYA, it is just shaders and what gets used that becomes an issue

Thanks for the advice! I just did a quick test on a different project I am making for the OUYA, and I noticed that when I render it in 720p the performance increased dramatically! Crazy how I haven't tried that yet! I'm gonna try that tomorrow on this game as see how it runs.
