I've decided to embark upon yet another modification to my Ouya: A cold air intake modification to the case that will allow cooler outside air to be brought in right over the system's heat sink fan.
First I had to find something to use as a duct.
In this case another piece of industrial scrap in the form of a flanged sleeve bushing made of brass:
Test fits:
The corner post over the fan is going to have to be removed to make room for the duct, so I cut it out at the base with a large pair of cutters and then snipped through the sheet metal holding the post in place.
A little more trimming removed the rest of the plastic from this area:
I then covered the enclosure in masking tape to protect it from getting scratched up while the holes are being made and used a square to establish where the drilling will start.
Note the tiny mark in the tape made by the scribe. That's where the hole will be made:
Close enough for government work!
The round mark you see in the center of the drilled hole is the center of the plastic fan being illuminated by a flashlight.
The stage is now set for punching the larger hole for the duct, which I'll have to do at work.
STAY TUNED FOR PART 2
