Considering trying this. In order to protect the thumb drive that I am currently using for storage, I'd connect a second smaller thumb drive for the ram through a powered usb hub. Is this even possible? I haven't yet had any luck getting the Ouya to detect multiple external storages devices

I don't think this app can cause any damage to flash drives as it's made specifically for SD cards. And you can turn it off anytime the extra RAM is not needed.

P.S. : The answer to your question is no, Ouya's firmware can't detect multiple USB disks for now.

This sort of app can easily kill any form of flash media, especially when used correctly. Flash media can only be written a specific number of times. This is not a issue when in 'normal' use, but when being constantly written to the same way RAM is used (swap file) will certainly use up all of those writes extremely quickly.

I once booted Windows 9x from a CF card without disabling the swap file first and the card dies after about 15 minutes. Flash media is like a note book, the more times you write in it, the less data you can fit over time.

You don't know that for sure. You're only making assumptions from how desktop OS manage RAM and swap files. After all, all storage in smartphones is flash and I have one or two 10 years old smartphones here, still working

Smart phones don't use storage for swap files though. For exactly that reason. Even the Android ROM tweaks that enable swap do so by creating a compressed swap file in RAM.

Well, let's just say I'm ready to take the risk of losing a SD card. But it's not likely to happen. Because the swap file access can be turned off every time you don't need the extra RAM.
