Platdude in The Spirit Collector - Jayenkai

Every month throughout 2014 (or at least, until I run out of ideas!) I'm releasing a brand new game featuring our intrepid hero, Platdude.
This month (March!), he's tackling the deadly task of capturing ghosts!

The task is simple. Run around the house avoiding ghosts. To help you navigate the house, you can run up the stairs, and fall down the holes. (Tip : If you hold "down" you can avoid running up the stairs)
To set off a trap, simply run up to it, whilst the red "READY!" light is lit.
Each trap is a single-use-only device, and once used will need to be recharged using the blue spheres that litter the house.

Other than that, it's all about running around, staying alive, and capturing ghosts.

    Prepare for epic running time!!

You can grab the game from the OUYA frontend, or right here.

Loads of fun, but I did find a bug.

If you jump up all the way to the top floor and then jump one more time, you end up on an invisible platform that you can't get down from and that enemies can't get up to that effectively forces you to restart the round that you're on.

Also, as a side-note, the background scrolling while running horizontally is actually a bit dizzying to me. Any chance of adding multiple backgrounds to choose from in the options? That pattern actually makes me nauseated.

Great game and really fun. Had more fun just running around as fast as I could to try and capture the ghosts, then taking my time. Died quicker too lol. I found the bug Hugo mentioned above too. The stairs are kinda buggy too but in a fun way! If your going up the steps and you hit down, your guy goes right thru the steps. Not sure if its intended but I use it to get around quicker lol.

Yeah, "down to go through the steps" was intentional.
.. What wasn't intentional was the stupid "you can jump up the walls" bug. (Leading to the "attic" issue)
A bug fix has been submitted and should be ready to go before the day is up.

I was trying to make the "leap over a ghost" a bit easier, but inadvertently made his jump a bit "too" high, and that got him caught in the wall a bit during his jump.
This has been fixed, and shouldn't be a problem in the new version.
    Stupid AGameAWeek schedule!!! Grrr!!!

As for the dizzying background.. Sorry! I tend not to make things too dizzying since I'm quite motion-sick-prone myself. Guess you must be even worse that I am!!!
Update : I've added 3 extra "wallpaper" styles into the game. Platdude's generic striped background, a red grainy thing, and a blue stripe thing. Hopefully you'll find one of them to be less "groovy" You'll find them in the Options screen, once the update kicks in.

I seriously love Platdude games. This was pretty good, but it still doesn't beat my favorite so far (NeonPlat Extreme).

I'd suggest a Platdude Smash Bros.-type game but I don't think the series has enough recognizable characters to work that sort of thing.

    Hmm...Funny you should say that..
I've got oodles of characters from 300+ games, and have actually been contemplating doing some sort of "JNK Fighters" for the past few months. Heck, look how many characters are in NeonPlat Extreme!! (I think there's 35...!? Can't remember!!)

Platdude, Blockman, Greenie and even Spike are lined up, ready to go.. I even animated Spike, to be sure he looks good.. And.. He kinda does .. I think... Maybe..!?

The tricky part is coming up with some kind of engine. I'm not sure if I want to go the "straight forward 2-player fighter" style, the "double-dragon scroller" type, or the "puzzle-fighter" not-fighty fighting thing..
And then there's AI to contend with, too. I'd need to make it really quite good for a fighting game!

Given the amount of stuff that has to go in to something like this, it's not very likely that it'll be "AGameAWeek", and will probably be left for a Month-Long project towards the end of the year. (As the year starts to drag on, and I run out of ideas, the larger projects start to crop up!)

It's on the backburner. One day, I'll give it a go. Today is not that day!

From the Windows-Only "NeonPlat Adventures" : End Credits : Complete list of characters! YouTube

They're not all recognisable, and won't all work in a Fighter, but there's plenty to choose from!

(hmm.. video seems to be borked.. Not sure why that would be.. Usually works.. :\ Game downloadable here)
