Hi!
Welcome to the forum.
Hope you decide to stay and we don't scare you off.![]()
I'm a Dev (not a great one, my best rank was O rank 29) and I'm a little disappointed that one of the number 1 awesome things about the console is changing. I can take 5 dollars and spend the time demoing a ton of games then buy the one I like. Then when I finally buy one I know it plays and feels awesome on the OUYA.
You guys are in charge but I'm more then a little disappointed that one of your coolest features is being taken away.
I mean I feel like it's what makes the OUYA different. It's made for gamers, by gamers. This is not a change gamers want at all. We love demos and being able to try out the games before spending our money on them, only companies and businesses will like this change.

To be fair, its the developers choice whether they want to give out a demo or not. So in the end they are the ones to blame.
Still its sad that OUYA degrades themselves and their principles because of some lazy devs that feel "restricted in their creativity" ...
IN PIXEL I TRUST
Trying the games at the store before buying them was something I could do before GameStop came
Seriously, reading reviews and looking for gameplays on youtube isn't just the same as having a controller and feel what's the game like.
Also games with demos sell better and are usually better because they are willing to put their money where their mouth is... "This is my game, after playing it for half an hour you won't be able to resist throwing down 10 bucks for the full version"
Compared to
"Pay 10 bucks and you can see if you like it, if you don't like it in the first five minutes that's to bad, we still get your cash"
As proven here. Some of the developers are also consumers, and some of the consumers are also developers. I personally doubt the majority of developers/consumers would vote for something like this, seeing as what was offered on the table (Free to try) is something completely different. Wasn't it because of these offerings that are being changed now the reason for people to support the platform, that being by developing and/or playing?
It would be absolutely hilarious if this backfires and no developers bother with the free to try thing. Would definitely make the OUYA less desirable for me and many others.
Does OUYA really believe that a dev, who couldn't be troubled to work in some kind of demo content, would actually put in the time to add solid and usable controller support to what is more than likely a mobile port?
This isn't fun news at all.
While I can understand why it was done, I can't see any good coming from this, especially from a marketing perspective.
I imagine this was largely due to the difficulty of attracting developers with a low download to purchase ratio,
and many who knew their game to be bad would want to hide behind a non-refundable pay-wall and skewed trailers.
Similar to others here I feel like this is a kick in the teeth to those who had been able to enjoy the platform for its
freedom where players were largely protected from many bad purchases by requiring a demo in some form.
Also not requiring a demo feels like a move to cater to game developers who just want a quick port over to the OUYA,
rather than those who actually want to target the platform in a serious manner. The large issue with this is that means
the game is likely already available and purchased somewhere else, meaning that it won't be of benefit to OUYA
because people will likely target the fact it's already available elsewhere and give more material for them to critique with.
As both a player and developer I've watched the amount of demo's decline over time while bugs in games and prices rose,
leaving most people vulnerable to large purchases of incredibly poor games. There are many reports that have shown
demo's don't help sell games which has led many to not bother with them, but that's largely because of the fact that
the demo's give people the opportunity to recognize the cloned game mechanics they've played countless times or the
issues with the game and has saved them from the purchase.
However of course most developers are money hungry machines and so they want people to be forced to make the purchase.
This is pretty much an issue with the entire industry so I don't think it's something that anyone can change anymore,
it's just a real shame to see the OUYA cave in for selfish developers who don't care for their players when OUYA has already
had so many other issues and critique to overcome.
