Trashmania: After Dark - Team Kakumei

It's night-time, and all you have to do is collect trashcans scattered across each level and take them to the dumpster. But watch out... you're not alone...

This is a little side project of mine that I've been developing on and off between Wrecking Balls Arena DX. It's the 3rd game in my Trashmania series (the first 2 games being Atari 2600 homebrews), and it's quite different from most of my other games. Certainly one of my more unpretentious projects, at least. I'll be releasing updates over time, and I definitely have plans for various different stages, features, etc. for future versions.

Here's the official OUYA page, along with the queue link and all. Hope you all enjoy the game, and please give feedback!

I was expecting something like Slender. So I running around, collecting cans. Do the first 2 levels and think:

"Whatever's meant to be following me is a bit slow here. This game's not as scary as I expected."

So on to the 3rd level, I've grabbed 2 cans. All's good... then I see Pac-man's long lost Russian Cousin. Clearly from Chernobyl cos he's 20+ foot tall. I'm crapping myself! I do a 180, I know he's right behind and I'm taking all numbers of paths to get away.

I look round, he's gone. So I go grab the final can nearby. Next thing I know. Pac-man's Sunburnt father wants a hug, he's right next to me! I'm running for my life and I start tracing my steps back to the main collection area. I'm running like mad knowing that monster wants a kiss. I stumble across a car parking lot... "Great!" I think.. "I'll lose him here."

So I weave down the side of a car, and I suddenly realise I'm lost. Big red's still chasing, and for the next 30 seconds I'm doing circles. All I'm doing is jumping between cars as the music plays all jolly. Suddenly I'm going past another car and Pacman comes out of no-where and eats me alive! Fat overgrown blob. 30 years of pills have clearly been steroids and sun tanning pills.... Why does he have to pick on me, I ain't even a ghost!!!

Thanks to everyone who's played so far! In just the first 7-8 days, the game has already achieved 280 Downloads, 28 Likes, 4/5 Stars based on 81 Ratings, and the current O-Rank is at 93! Overall I'm very happy with the positive reception thus far.

Sometime this week I hope to release a new version, which (in addition to fixing a few bugs and silly mistakes I made in the initial release) will add another stage or two. I'll explain the level organization more later on, but until then here's a sneak peak at what to expect in the next version.

Oh, and Saracen26... that was beautiful. :O

Sadly, I've slipped a bit on the schedule due to a HEAVY amount of schoolwork getting in the way lately. The new update is very close to being ready, but there's still a few bugs and other things that need to be fixed beforehand. To help tide you all over even more, here's a few more images based on things you'll see in the next update.

About darn time I posted the new update! It's now up on Discover, so go check it out right now! I included a changelog in the updated game's description, but I guess I can go a little further into detail about some of the new additions going from version 0.71 to 0.85...

    • Two New Levels! Following the previous three stages (now called Prologue, Forest A, and Forest B), you'll now be facing Suburb A and Suburb B. The cars and roadways hinted at in Forest B are now here in full force! I'll hold off on anymore descriptions and just let you experience these levels and what surprises they may hold.
    • Level Select Screen! You're now given the ability to start the game on any level you've previously played (progress is saved starting with this update). This screen also displays the high score.
    • Minor changes to some of the original three stages, most notably the tents now come in a wider variety of colors and trashcans have a decent chance of appearing inside them (whereas before they'd usually appear clipping through the tent).
    • When you complete a level, there's now a proper "Level Completed!" screen/fade-out.
    • The "Generating Level..." text has been replaced with "Entering Level: [Name of Next Level]".
    • Font is now consistent across most (if not all) in-game text. The name of the font is Buxton Sketch, if you're curious. It was originally used in the logo, but I found that it worked well for everything else.
    • Minor changes to the enemy AI... I'd prefer to keep his behavior patterns a secret for now , but I did fix a few glitches that were causing more unfair game overs.
    • Various bugfixes... like a ton of them.

Real life has been getting in the way these past few weeks (and with me getting a job soon it may cut into my schedule just as much), but I've been working on adding new things whenever I have the time. Here's a list of some of these things.

    • One big-but-subtle changes is a completely redone lighting system; it may look similar to the one right now, but it's made the game run significantly faster, which in turn...
    • The game now runs at a constant 60 FPS at 768p (compared to the previous 25-30 FPS at 720p). Combined with some minor tweaks I made to the movement code, I'm sure at least a few of you will be impressed by how smooth the game handles now.
    • Despite that, I've still managed to increase the polygon count on many of the models. The trees in particular look much better now. There's also some added details such as some nice fog effects in the "Prologue" level.
    • Continuing to improve the Monster AI... he's shaping up very nicely.
    • The ability to look up and down, as the level designs I'm coming up with are starting to make such a feature almost necessary.
    • Online Leaderboards and some potential multiplayer mode are being worked on, but it's low on the priority list for now. I did test a 2-Player Splitscreen mode and it had little-to-no effect on the framerate.
    • And finally, I have five more levels planned for the game. Metro A and Metro B should be in the update after the next. I won't spoil anything, but I've been working real hard to make this second half of the game something really special... I really hope all of you are able to check it out!

Here's a screenshot from the next update, which should be available within the next week or two:
