Acorn Assault - High Tale Studios

Hey everybody! If you love strategy games, want another game to play with a friend on your couch, or just want to see squirrels battling it out, look no further! Our game Acorn Assault just launched on the OUYA store this morning and has all that and more! The game is an exclusive so OUYA is the only place to get it. Okay... enough with the salesperson talk.

We have been working hard on this game for the last year and are excited to hear how you all like the game! This started as a submission to the OUYA Create game jam about a year ago and we got such a good response on it we turned it into a full game and remade it from scratch. Please let us know what you think of the game by replying to this thread or contacting us directly at derrick.canfield@hightalestudios.com or amish.patel@hightalestudios.com.

To begin with I had no idea how to play this I couldn't be bothered to read through all the help at the beginning lol.

After I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed it. What do you get when you buy it? Is there a lot of content?

I'm glad you guys both like it! Maybe we need to improve the tutorial in the beginning. And purchasing the game unlocks unlimited plays. We are toying around with the idea with adding online multiplayer after you unlock the game. What things would you guys like to see in the fully unlocked game? Also, how did you guys feel about the trial period?

I think a visual tutorial would help. The stacking and where they will move to when stacked is kind of confusing.

I would like online multiplayer and story mode for a full unlock.

If you only get access to playing the same level again that would not be enough for me to unlock it really. Honestly I've never been a fan of timed demo's or heavy restrictions like 5 turns.

I think if the game had more armies to go against, like a story or some sort of progression then maybe access to the first level against an easy enemy would be a good idea.

I would like more armies, more visual changes like different castles for different armies and different levels with progression, harder enemies, more items and as above a visual tutorial please.

The core game is amazing though so hope you will build on it and I still may buy it as I had a lot of fun.

I went to try it last night, but I think I'm experiencing an issue that I normally have with some games when they launch and that is the Y axis on a PS3 controller is inverted. Usually the devs have to make a quick fix for it. Would love to give this a shot, but I use the PS3 almost exclusively, as I have all 4 of them sync'd up and charged right by my Ouya. If you all could look into a possible fix for this, would be great. Visually, love what I see so far. I think this is a game that I would really enjoy.

Thanks for all of the great responses! As far as the tutorial goes, is it just the merging of pieces that is confusing or should we also focus on any other particular part of the gameplay in the tutorial? It seems like story or at least a change of scenery and characters is a popular request. I will talk to the team about that. Hopefully we can get online multiplayer in there fairly soon. It was something we developed but it wasn't going to be ready for the game's launch so it ended up on the chopping block. And Nadious, thanks for letting us know. We have yet to play the game with a PS3 controller, but we do have some laying around. I'll look into a fix for that.

And, out of curiosity, how did you guys fare against playing the computer and how difficult is it to beat?
