Can't wait, just bought Hack Slash Loot on Steam and gonna end up playing this instead ;D
Looks like yer game and mine came out same day.
I'll be trying yours momentarily...
I downloaded this as soon as I saw it! It kept me amused for a good while. :)

SPOILERS:
I am interested to see who beats this first, and how long it takes them (exact play-time is shown at the end of the credits)
Also, I will drop the hint that there are easier ways to backtrack, but I won't tell you how ;)
I found the easier way to backtrack.
I just beat the game at 12:27 EST. Play time 3 hours 10 minutes 2 seconds. 17717 steps. I save-scummed ONCE so I got the bad ending :P (Didn't realize bringing up the menu acted as a turn, so ended up waiting too long to heal once).
Really liked the game, any plans to expand it? Not complaining because the experience was free (except for donation I'm sending your way) but would definitely love a longer game -- appreciate your sense of humor and the uniqueness of this game. My OCD kicks in and I want to collect all those dots/gold! More gear and a leveling up system would be neat additions as well.
Time for Bob's Adventure: Crypt of Baconthulu EXTENDED PLAY! ;)
EDIT: Another cool idea would be more variety of monster attacks. Right now the only fighting in the game is two creatures bumping into each other for an exchange of HP (besides scrolls). Would like to see monsters shooting bacon, teleporting, whatever just to introduce some new tactics. I was scared of the final boss until I just walked into him til his demise :P Still think this game was really fun just a lot of area to expand and make it even better! w00t
Congratulations DanTilly! I have had a had time guessing how long it would take other people to beat, since my own playthroughs are always highly squewed by knowing all the goals and tricks in advance.
I won't make any specific promises for future updates-- right now I am ready to work on some other projects for a while, but I very much appreciate new feature ideas, and I will file them away in my suggestions file.
Awesome game well worth my Donation :D hope to see Bob the Hamster continue to grace our OUYA's with his presence :D
Great game ! Very happy to donate :victorious:
After a lot of playing, I think that the character of this game changes a lot once you have beat the first time. Before the first victory, it is a Maze/puzzle game, but on subsequent play-throughs it becomes a Speedrun-challenge
In the spoiler is a screenshot of my best speedrun time so far. I am wondering if anybody can beat it (or already has beaten it?)
The most important factor to speedrunning the Crypt of Baconthulhu is knowing who/what you are looking for in each level, and knowing how to optimize the use of your Chalk, Telepo, Jiffy, Bat, and Monarch items
Another factor of a speedrun is getting a lucky dungeon layout. I was thinking that next time I do an update (no promises as to when) I might add a feature that allows you to generate the dungeon based on a seed number, so if you want to challenge someone else's speedrun you can play using the same random seed number and get the same dungeon. Would anybody be interested in that feature?
How do you level up? When I look at the status menu it reads that my character is lvl 0 and I need 30 more exp to level up... but no matter how many monsters I kill this never changes.
=S
Local co-op racing would be super fun.
Oops! I should have done something to hide that from the status menu. I wrote the game using the OHRRPGCE which is designed for RPG games, but I ignored most of the rpg features and scripted all the gameplay instead.
Local co-op and/or racing would be fun, but sadly I couldn't do split-screen without a from-scratch re-write of very large portions of the engine. I don't think it is in the cards for this game, sorry! :(
My next game is going to have local two player (of a somewhat unusal kind) but I will save explaining that until I make a thread for the new game :)
No problem. Its completely understandable and no one would expect you to rewrite the game. It was just an idea I liked cause as far as I know, no one has done that as like a value added feature for replay value yet and it seemed like a great idea. Love the game as is! And if you do like the idea you could always use it for a future product :)
Hmm, the visuals look cute and funny but the video doesn't really show a lot of interesting things going on.
So I am not sure if the game itself doesn't have a lot of features or it's just the video that is poorly made.
Basically 90% of the time in the video you see the little guy walks into enemies and melee them with a weapon face to face. Sometimes he equips new weapons and rarely he does some other not so interesting stuff like destroying a wall or increasing stamina with a potion.
I am not trying to be mean I am just saying that the video didn't make me want to play the game.
Well personally I am a really tough player to entertain, I barely play any games recently.
I don't know, I hope this feedback will be useful for you... maybe I am totally wrong.
@PompiPompi - Probably this is not the right game for you! And that is okay! ;)
I am not very good at creating videos, but I think the video still does a decent job of representing gameplay. There is a whole lot of running around maze passages picking up coins and whacking enemies with your sword-- that is 95% of the game.
What gives me joy when I play, is the satisfaction of solving the maze and seeing the tunnels being exposed bit-by-bit, and the "ching-caching" noises of picking up the coins. I think it takes a special kind of OCD to be delighted in this kind of gameplay, so I totally understand that this is a niche game that is not going to be interesting to everybody. Thank you anyway for giving your feedback. I appreciate it!
@mmartino - I do like the suggestion. I have some other games I want to finish working on first, but if I ever get around to making a Baconthulhu sequel, I will definitely have local multiplayer high on my list of target features right from the beginning.
Actually, the very final scene of the good ending would lead very nicely into a 4-player sequel :)
I made a small update this weekend, and it was just approved. https://www.ouya.tv/game/Crypt-of-Baconthulhu/
This adds new music for the intro and for the endings, and based on Carrie Brown's feedback, I decided that rather than removing the experience and level from the Status menu, I should make them actually do something. You now earn experience for beating monsters, and you get a bonus of your choice when you level up.
It has been a good while since I released Crypt of Baconthulhu, so I think I am going to reveal a cheat-code!
This is a pretty powerful cheat, so I don't reccomend using it unless you are really badly stuck, or you have played through so many times that you are bored with it.
