JNKPlat - Platdude's Xmas Adventure


It's been a long long time since I last tackled a JNKPlat game. JNKPlat is traditionally a Puzzle Platformer game, which tends to rely upon Puzzle mechanics more than it does Platform ones. Think of this game as the Sokoban of Platformers. (although that isn't very evident in this small edition.)

Over the years, I've made and remade the JNKPlat games so many times, it almost became like some sort of terrible EA Sports title, with constant annual refreshes!

Since I started writing games for mobiles, I've struggled to make the game work on their touchscreen devices. The game absolutely relies on button pushes, and unless I want a game with a thousand onscreen buttons, which I don't, it isn't ever really going to work on Android or iOS.
As such, JNKPlat has actually been taking a break, and I've not properly tackled the game since 2010.

The past couple of months, however, I've been having loads of fun with OUYA, and I've decided to create a special little mini JNKPlat adventure for Xmas.
This is a case of testing the waters.
It's a nice little mini adventure, contains 15 levels, and then abruptly stops!

I'd like to know your opinions on this game, and whether or not you'd like to see more of the same.
Based entirely on your feedback, I may or may not continue to expand this game, into a fully fledged JNKPlat 2014.
.. Well, I probably will anyway, but it'd be nice to get some feedback, either way!

Grab the game, give it a play, and let me know if you like it or not.

Nice to see you join the forum! Jayenkai you know I always play your games as they release onto OUYA. I've already downloaded and "liked" this one but haven't had a chance to play it yet because my whole basement flooded with my belongings included.

Normally I'd have already beaten this game but its gotta wait at the moment. For everyone that doesnt know, this is the developer who runs agameaweek.com and has released BlastTrax, NeonPlat Raw/Extreme, Sheep Goes Right, Karls Tiny Adventure, Blockman, Hoppy Bobby, Spikedislike2, etc etc onto the OUYA for completely free.

All of his games are retro and fun as hell to play through. So boot this up and give it a try! Just last week I suggested to him JNKPlat Adventure on the OUYA and this week, look at what we have? Your opinions and feedback matter to this guy.

To be fair, the game was practically finished when you asked about it ;)
I've spent most of this month working on it, but still need to bulk it up into something larger for the full edition. Nice level select, proper "risk/reward" system! and then a whole host of different objects and levels to go with them.
But for a Xmas edition, I think it's turned out quite nice.

But do let me know what you think.

Decided to sit down and play some OUYA and this was the first game I went for. Most of Jayenkai's games are pretty short so figured I could beat this then move onto other games.

Wow, this game was fun but insanely challenging and at times frustrating (THIS KILLED ME!?! darn him for putting spikes here!! etc). I did manage to complete the game but not before it gave me a few grey hairs. If you like platformers that start off pretty simple and then crank the difficulty up to 11 try this out.

Really hoping to see more games like this from you released onto OUYA James.

I really like this guy's games too (especially Blast Trax and Neon Plat Extreme, great stuff). I'll be sure to give this a shot when I get home this weekend. Pardon me if I've missed the obvious, but is there any way to donate on the Ouya? I feel bad for playing such great games for free.

The easiest way to "donate" is to grab some of my Android or iOS games.

I'm not a fan of IAP, mostly because they require additional work to get going!!
When focusing on AGameAWeek, I tend to build games really quick, then throw them out there for folk to play with.
I haven't yet attempted true AGameAWeek with OUYA. The past couple of months have been stuff I've made over the past year, rejigged for OUYA, and then both NeonPlat Extreme and JNKPlat which were properly designed with OUYA in mind.
If I want to add IAP, I need to do a few things.
1. I need to get over my absolute hatred of IAP. This is difficult. I can't stand the things. Anything that gets inbetween the player and the game is just wrong, IMO.
2. Each game will need to be properly signed, and double checked, and all of that.
Really, when you're quickly cobbling together games at the rate I am, number 2s a lot more of a task than you'd imagine!!
It's "easy", sure, but it's not quite AGameAWeek!!

Since I can't stick a price on an OUYA game without it being IAP, I'm afraid (for the time being, at least) you're all just going to have to deal with my games being free. Sorry about that!

A few of my Android and iOS games do have price tags, though. SpikeDislike2, BlastTrax and NeonPlat Extreme are all pay-for games on both those systems, and so rightly have a few extra modes that aren't in the OUYA editions. (Additionally the iOS ones feature GameCenter stuff.. .. Would LOVE to add that to my OUYA stuff, but I don't think we'll be seeing that, any time soon!!)

Oh, and indeed, there's a PayPal donate button on my website, but that's been there for years, and barely ever been clicked!! Folk tend to ignore the option to donate!!!

It's a cool game with a neat mechanics. I enjoyed it!
Only downside is that there is no level selection so I have to start from the beginning every time. Or maybe I just can't find it.
Did you really make all those games in a week (each)? It's mind blowing.
