Super World Karts GP [kickstarter] #OUYA

Super World Karts, my mode7 SNES style kart racer has relaunched on kickstarter!

It has come a long long way since the first attempt last year, and now features heaps of awesome Indie game characters you might recognize, making cameo appearances as bonus karts to unlock.

Seems cool, but I'm not sure all the people will love the pixel art (and...consider that the old Mario Kart games are working on Ouya, with emulators).

Maybe a more complex visual style (similar to the recent Mario Kart 8) could attract more players:

Thanks for sharing that, I would have totally missed the project otherwise. Well, probably would have noticed it on the FreeTheGames website eventually, but good timing none the less.

I had a link to the kickstarter page in my sig since yesterday so :P

Thanks for your comment 999, that looks lovely. It was also created by hundreds of people for what looks like a million dollars over a 4yr period.

As good as I think the 3d mariokart games are, I still love the flat tracks of the mode7 sprite based versions. There is just something pure about not having hills, it's just your kart and the flat race line.

I am also adding new things to the old too though to refresh it a little - with analogue steering, drifting, collection goals and achievements.

Sure, Mario Kart is a big name...it isn't something that can be easily cloned.

I think the 3D could be more eye-catching, but the retro-visuals are still cool! Instead of my points, I like what I see in your pics!

This is actually true timmytot, since i posted this thread, the kicktraq projection changed from a prediction of 20% to 22%, the first time the projection has changed since the project began! And it's all thanks to you fantastic people here deciding what games you want to see on your OUYA! I can only hope the projection will continue to make such leaps.

I think the idea is cool and will be great either way. I agree with the above.

This game can very well get me seriously addicted.
If anybody knows me here they know that I'm a Mario kart vet that has been clanning for years.
And this is gonna grab my attention right off the bat lol
I will b purchasing this day of release.

Question: will this hav online multiplayer?

Can you explain the multiplayer feastures? will this be online and offline? cross platform? will there be a 4 player local mode / splitscreen for the ouya?

and also as a guy at reddit.com/r/ouya pointed out: Great EXCEPT I have no interest in a desktop version.
So I can fund $10 for a PC or Mac version
OR $16 for the OUYA version and PC and Mac.

Hi CheeseKing, so far there is only a little bit of code started towards split screen local multiplayer for races and battle mode for 2 players, I'd need to have the OUYA to test on before I can promise 4 player splits (but it is something I'd like to have). As far as online play goes, I have yet to look into solutions for it. My main focus right now is to get the project funded so that development may continue at the pace it has been.

And to your 2nd point, the $10 tier was introduced in week 2 as a limited availability discounted tier for only 100 early backers. It was introduced in the hope of jump starting the project which was essentially stillborn. I had hoped it would quickly sell out and lift the funded total by $1000 but that didn't happen.

Online multiplayer is uncertain right now. If it gets funded there will be local split screen from day one. If the game doesn't bomb after release then online play will be a likely reality.

Thanks for that, it really is nice to wake up to comments telling you what you're making looks cool. :)

Unfortunately it is not looking good for the project right now. It only has 45 backers when realistically to get funded it was going to need between 800 and a thousand backers. I had thought that maybe there would have been more people interested in it, but at the current rate of new backers there will only be around 80 people interested enough to back it by the end. That would leave it at around 20% funded and dead & buried. Then I'll be giving my apologies to everyone who were excited about this coming to their living rooms. :(

As I'm currently a student, I don't have much money to give. So my question is if I pledge $1 for all three games, would I be able to unlock the characters when I buy the full game when it's officially released?
