Might I suggest a pay-per-use Username Change? Like 2.99 to change your Username, then each additional time it's 2.99 as well?
Okay, so here area few things that can easily be implemented via native VB4 and some public, free plugins. I will add more as I think of them:
1) I know eddie has mentioned that he is against classifieds sections before, but I want to revisit the topic with an idea. In some of the past forums I have moderated or even just been a member, of, they offered classifieds, but only to people who can prove that they are legitimate sellers. That is--there would be a specific user group for classifieds access (sometimes even one for reading and one for posting) and you couldn't even see the section without belonging to at least one of those groups. People had to be manually added to those groups by proving that they are good people in other ways. Furthermore, if someone does something mischievous inside of the classifieds, then they are instantly perm banned unless they can back up their actions with the ADMIN. You can be as strict or as lenient with the user group criteria as you want and even choose to only allow certain things to be sold and bought ( such as only allowing the sale and purchase of texture packs and other dev-related goodies which are very valuable to developers).
2) Again, I am going to revisit a topic discussed before: Donations. It's no secret that this site is loosing money. I think instead of simply allowing donations with no reward, offer a premium account that you pay either monthly, yearly, or one time lifetime fee. This is easily facilitated by VB4's native subscription settings. Make it so that premium members have access to special forum areas, such as a no-holds-barred (or maybe even just filter-free) premium members section. You could give them special permissions that normal users don't have. Heck, you could even make the aforementioned classifieds section only available to premium users.
That's it for now, but I will try to update this as time goes on. Other mods, feel free to chime in and/or edit this post with your own suggestions.
For 2, premium users could have the ability to manually change username and/or usertitle, that'd make it more interesting. And a swell name color.
1. I think this is a good idea actually. Not to mention that we can get advice from http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/forum.php The best video game website on the planet that not on successfully implemented a market. They enforced it perfectly, too.
2. (To clarify)Premium members could have some specific on their account that disables the censor, while regular ones still see ****. This could be in a exclusive forum or site-wide.
Amadeus: Me and DrunkPunk already told you that, that's not going to happen so get it out of your head.
I'm not giving you more reasons. It's not happening.Quote:
James: Yeah, usually needs to be a really good reason for changing a username, otherwise we'd get spammed with requests to change them
RiotingSpectre: It's confusing to say the least, Amadeus.
RiotingSpectre: We'd have a lot of members not knowing each other were.
RiotingSpectre: Not to mention that members who have access to the adminCP should only use it for emergencies.
DrunkPunk: If it did get changed, you would just want to change it again in a month
RiotingSpectre Right. It's a slippery slope.
Amadeus Why?
RiotingSpectreWhen I was admin on three previous websites. I had members constantly wanting their names changed over, and over, and over again.
