We need an official music thread.
What are you listening to?
Are you going to any shows?
Have you seen any good shows recently?
Are you in a band?
Let's hear it.
What I'm in to
I'm mostly into punk (crust, d-beat, hardcore) but I also like chiptunes (the gameboy stuff), grindcore (or goregrind, if you will), black metal (only the underground) and some hiphop (the left wing stuff, not the bling).
Shows
I'm going to shows frequently, always punk. The last one I saw was Ursut, a local crust band. It was very fun.
The band status
I have been in two bands but now I'm not. I do have a guitar and a bass standing around so I will probably end up in a band again sooner or later.
In a band. Hate going to shows. Been listening to halcyon since it came out.

Wut up, Kris?
I listen to some punk and oi and hardcore, usually by proxy of hanging out with my punk and baldhead buddies. I'm more of a 60s reggae/rocksteady/ska fan and play such in this band (which you all are now commanded to like):
The Shifters
I collect vinyl - mostly from the 60s and 80s. I listen to a bit of everything from Zappa to The Ramones to Oingo Boingo to Amy Winehouse to Hepcat to Rancid to whatever... minus anything with a disco beat (4 on the floor bassdrum drives me nuts, electronic or otherwise). Right now, I'm listening to New Order and XTC while I get some shit done in my cubicle.
Kavinsky - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV_3Dpw-BRY - I like electronic music from the 80s. :)

Opening track from their latest album Shaking The Habitual.
I have no genre, but just like to listen to anything that sounds good to me. Listening to Never Turn Back by Crush 40 and Orange Crush by R.E.M
No.
Tom Petty but he sucked ball sack unfortunately.
I played the flute in my elementary school music class way back when........
Lately I prefer podcasts over music. Only because I find them more interesting to listen to when working.
Currently I've been listening to some new stuff from OCRemix. Normally, I only listen to Punk. Occasionally I'll thrown in an opera and I listen to NPR for radio.
The only time I go out is when I'm playing a show, so yeah, they're all brilliant! Hahaha!:D

This week been listening to the new ˇMayday!.

Right now I have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZneZEpExkM playing.
The new QOTSA album is getting a lot of love from me at the moment. Incredible album.
Also, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip released a new track at the weekend, Stunner. Which might be one of my favourite things they've ever done. Dan's beats sound a lot meaner and menacing than they have done before. And Pip's on fire.
It's alright, but nothing is ever going to beat Rated R. Anyways:

It took a few go arounds for me to properly connect with it. First couple of times I heard it I was pretty unfazed by the whole thing and was ready to ignore it. But got yelled at for this opinion by a pal who runs a record store and is usually right on these matters.Quote:

Once it finally clicked with me, it's improved with every listen. Fairweather Friends in one of the best tracks the band's ever recorded. That Elton John collaborated on it makes it even more entertaining.
Currently listening to Larry & His Flask (punk band that went bluegrass/ragtime of all things...still some punk in the sound).
I caught them live about two weeks ago and it was easily the best show that I've seen in a long, long time.
Dune - Spice Opera. Nice remake of the music from first Dune game:

What am I listening to? Only one of the greatest Power Rangers remixes of ALL time! :D I swear this song needs to be on a DDR game! I would dance my ass off to this song if it was available!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVEMCFjPvzY
The only other remix that comes close are the Nickelodeon based Rangers themes, "Power Rangers Samurai" and "Power Rangers MEGAFORCE", more so MEGAFORCE :D and YES I'm a HUGE Power Rangers geek!
"Power Rangers: MEGAFORCE" Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjB_YT9fKew
0:26-0:36 is my favorite part of the MEGAFORCE theme. I NEVER thought they could remix that part in such a way that it makes it feel epic. BTW I sing along to this theme every time this show comes on. My Wife thinks it's cute. After 15 ish years of hearing different types of Power Ranger themes, i never thought that "Go Go Power Rangers" would be so amazing to hear again!
She be the one..Enrique Iglesias..my favorite for a long time..reviving it again.

Definitely worth a listen. The best thing about the show was when the drummer (and singer on some songs) jumped into the crowd and they carried him all the way to the bar for a beer. He made it back to the stage the same way. I got it on video but it didn't turn out all that well.
Grew up listening to punk/pop-punk. Highschool/college was death metal/black/grind and anything heavy/underground. Have been in plenty of crappy local death metal bands (vocals).
Nowadays I'm not as obsessed. Still follow the scene a bit but don't have as much time to find out about new bands or new releases so mostly listen to what I already know.
However, did just hear about this awesome record I'm listening to.

I do a 'bad movie night' in my house every sunday, and more often than not it's a Bollywood movie that saves it.
One of my favorites is Dostana, which is about these two guys who pretend to be gay so they can move into an awesome apartment with a beautiful woman--who naturally they both fall in love with and hilarity ensues. It's pretty much Chuck & Larry mixed with Three's Company. It's got some awesome music including:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDrx98DwGP0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-XFvaNHGiY
The chorus translates to:
"We're sacrificing everything
Slaughter thousand fold
Our lives are ripped in pieces"
I love it.
