This is a video of the progress so far with a combat project I plan to have ready for the OUYA marketplace launch.
For me the OUYA isn't simply 'another platform', it's the opportunity to create games intended for console controllers.
I'm using this project to demonstrate not only that the OUYA can be used for more than simple ports, etc,
and that it deserves it's place as a console platform, but that there is still so much untapped innovation with combat,
and the trend of moving towards combo systems and quick time events that leave you feeling more detached from
your character isn't something that needs to stay.
Excerpt from the update post on our website at -

"You'll notice the variety of strikes-that isn't a button-bashed combo, but you control your actions with the joystick motions.
This is a unique way of controlling the flow of combat-you, instead of having to button your way through these motions
to achieve the speed of these strikes, you hold down the button for each type of attack.
To access this set of attacks, you hold down R1 with the addition of O/A/Y.
O: punching | A: kicking | Y: swordplay
You then from that manipulate how you strike with the left joystick.
So if you have R1 held and move the joystick to the right, pressing O will punch right.
You don't need to re-push O for a second punch though, you can hold down O and continue to punch right with the joystick
moved to the right, or you can strike back to the left by moving the joystick to the left. With this the flow of combat can be
quick and in your control, without the need of tiring your hand by constantly button bashing or trying to precisely time when
the animation will end and you can strike again, and you can quickly switch between actions by moving your thumb over to
the A/Y button to change it up with some kicking or sword strikes.
This method leads to a great flow of motion and control without stress.
I can't wait for people to try this out for themselves!"
I don't have any plans yet to release another video until the trailer, but if I do end up with some spare time I hope to be
able to demonstrate how you'll be in control of your dodging.
I hope you like what you've seen so far, if your interested you can follow our updates at the locations below.
