Hmmm, the Nvidia marketing guy below says it will launch May 5th - which is this Tuesday. Don't know if that's accurate, things can move out over time, we will soon see I guess

I'm undecided between this and the OBox. I guess I can't go wrong either way.
I do need a new media streamer.
was going to just get a roku but this looks more & more like a good idea.
It has Blue Tooth so the controllers for my ouya will work.
It just depends on what games are on the Android TV platform.
I can't find a full list anywhere.
I just keep getting the same 20 games when I search for one.
May 5th...will it have OE or be a native O device? Hmmmm....
future proof isnt an issue with roku.
the new ones allready support 4k netflix (not that I plan to purchase a 4k TV in the near future)
Nor shield with the way they are cranking these devices out almost yearly.
It's more of a matter of it's starting to get annoying cycling through my HDMI hub to get to the device I want.
If I buy a roku then decide on a shield....
What would make this a better Kodi device than a chromebox? I thought the limitations of Fire TV and other Android boxes were OS related rather than hardware. In other words, as far as Kodi goes, would this be that different than the Fire TV?

The hardware is capable of decoding hevc/h265/vp9 and dealing with 4k content - which Fire TV can't. But there is no Kodi support for that yet. The CPU should also be much more capable to deal with software decoding of formats that are not supported (which shouldn't matter much though since it will probably not be able to decode hevc in software anyway, although it might be close, so maybe some files will play). The remote from Fire TV is much better though - maybe it will work with Shield?
