Cloud is the future of gaming.
This.
They are either over-charging for the k1 or taking a loss on the X1.
My only "HUH?!?!?!" is the 16GB of ram.
They must plan on a lot of cloud gaming which isn't something I'm not a fan of.
A class 10 128gb card goes for about $60.
How much for the remote matters also.
Still, It's not a bad little device at all for $200.
It depends on the Games mostly that become available and how much they try to charge.
Does the Ouya 2 need to match these specs though?
For me personally, no. The chip has been the least of my issues with the OUYA. All I would need is the storage issues being solved with more on board memory and/or external storage completely out of beta in every way so that there is no loss of save data issues and using it through USB 3.0, more of a focus on the operating system side of things that solves practically every issue in Unofficial Support and other things people have been requesting like social features, etc. with a massive firmware update, full backwards compatibility, and I would be happy with any Tegra chip higher than Tegra 3. In other words, as long at the OUYA 1.0 side of it no longer has that beta feel to it so that it is more plug and play for the consumer without feeling like you are fighting your OUYA to get it to work and it just has a more powerful chip to justify the name OUYA 2.0 then I'm happy. However, I feel that my opinion is outnumbered by those who take a more developer centric view where they would be happy with the most powerful chip even if that means it comes at the price of the consumer side issues remaining. I guess it is the whole chicken and egg thing. Others feel that ports that they want are lacking because it doesn't have enough power for developers but I think it is because there isn't enough users with a big part of that being that people are first turned off by having to enter their credit card before even seeing what the console is about and then once they get past that wall they will inevitable come across issues that would require them to come online to places like here because it doesn't have a bugs/issues free plug and play console experience.
Unless the OBox can be competitively priced, then I see no reason why I shouldn't pick this up. However, the OBox does have some advantages that might make it worth purchasing regardless if it's not really that ideal in its price when compared to the Nvidia Shield console.
for starters when you buy it, it will give you:

I will be honest... the nvidia shield (x1) its really powerful! But i still prefer the ouya! Because this comunity its really unique! I love you all!

I want the ouya 2 and i want it now TAKE MY MONEY
I think Ouya would need to launch a K1 Ouya 2 for about $99 really. $150 is too close to the Shield not to be swayed to it. It will be interesting.
This isn't to say no one will buy an Ouya, its a matter of a million cuts, the Shield will take away a substantial market share away from Ouya. The question is whether that will be enough to make Ouya unviable. I guess this all boils down now to China and Ouya Everywhere, suddenly OE in other markets looks vital to Ouya. Particularly in China where they like to do their own store on devices and not use Google Play.
Which gets me to what I said the other day, Ouya need to be talking to devs to understand any issues or roadblocks they have in making their games available on OE to the Chinese devices. Because if not enough devs make their games available to the chinese devices(like Alibabas console) via OE, then its all over bar the shouting. Alibaba will get burnt, and no one else will touch OE
Ahem, check dev talk. There are reasons for certain threads.
And OE was always vital to them, not just some throwaway thing, devs didn't treat it as such and then you have the issues on their side like Nuvola and Wikipad still not having it. China could end up being much bigger than it is right now...there are a few big fish they haven't hooked up with yet like Tencent which Xiaomi owns a part of so would not be surprised to see that happen.
Not sure what to think because this is an ATV box afterall. Will those games they showed off, get ported? Maybe...
Or what if, this box ends up having OUYA on it...
OR
What if OUYA 2 kind of becomes part of this thing.
Hmmm...
I'm not sure Ouya got any discount what so ever on Tegra 3 SOCs from Nvidia - although some thought that was the case. However, now that they are competing with Nvidia, I don't like their chance of getting any breaks now.
Maybe it's time to look at other SOC alternatives, there's a lot of them
Are they competing with ouya or xboxone?
Nvidia took a run at Xbox for both k1 and x1.
A prime example of extreme dumbness.
First they Compared a tegra 3 to xboxone.
Now they Compare a device supposedly faster than xboxone to a tegra3 device.
You'd think the shield was the new hot girl at work and the author of that article was the mail guy trying to sleep with her.
IGN is worthless for any sort of news or content.
Now that the dust has kind of settled, I've realized this Shield console is not what I want. The Xbox one handles my media needs so I don't really have a use for Android TV. As for the gaming aspect, it doesn't seem like its centered around indie games the way Ouya is right now. Hopefully Ouya 2 follows in the first Ouyas footsteps with that. So yea, I'm probably going to pass on this.
I wonder how much they paid Freddie Wong and Epic Meal Time etc to come to the event and praise the Shield. If you watched the launch, you would have noticed Nvidia went all out on pushing this thing- prior to and after the reveal.

It's still an Android TV but NVidia does have the cash to make people think they want it. Seems like there will be a few exclusive games for it because of their partnerships but it shouldn't be in the "OUYA killer" category like so many others. We'll see...
This thing could flop so hard that NVidia begs people to start using their chips after they probably just chased them away to other chipsets.
The only issue I have is this is 4 devices called shield nvidia now has out in the wild.
Can't they afford to pay someone to come up with a new name?
I just hope they actually get serious and start supporting their Tegra "family" with this hardware release, because some people are still waiting for those PC ports for their Nvidia Shield Portable that they were promised. Their Tablet is the same, they make some games for launch and then abandon the device. It is a gamble with them, so I hope they get their shit together this time around, though I highly doubt it.
I may still get this to use as a media (KODI) player to replace my old ass wdtv live hub, it is the perfect replacement.
I think it counts as different names because of Shield Portable(Tegra 4), Shield Tablet(K1), and Shield Console(X1). It looks like they are using the name Shield as a brand name for their own devices that have a focus around gaming and for each chip with Shield Hub being for filtering of games optimized for those devices exclusively and TegraZone for filtering of games optimized for the chips generally. Anyway, short hand names using the chips could be the Shield T4, Shield K1, and Shield X1.
If Obox can match the price, but even if it doesn't, being modular alone still makes it really beneficial. But for me, this Shield has all of the power that I need for media crap and beyond.
The thing is, all of them are just named "Shield". Consumers gave them the latter part of their names because Nvidia is not clever enough to do it themselves.

Could call them the Seth Rollins, the Dean Ambrose , and the Roman Reigns.

I wonder if they will update the Shield console with their latest SOC every year.
P.S When they launched the Shield Tablet, they mentioned that Shield would be a product family name, and that the Tablet was now the newest member of the Shield Family. That is why I had guessed in the previous Nvidia thread that they would call it Shield TV - turns out they just went for Shield which is weird and confusing. No doubt it will be dubbed Shield something by the time it launches.
Yes it was, but when they announced the Tablet, they mentioned that Shield would now be a product family name. You might remember the tag they used "Introducing the newest member to the Shield family"
Here's a little on it, http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2014/07...shield-family/
The intro of the tablet and controller to the shield family: https://developer.nvidia.com/content...ame-controller
I'm going on a limb here and say they will call it Shield Console.
By the way , if you want to be notified when the Shield goes on sale. Here is the Shield notify me link: http://shield.nvidia.com/console#
I know this part, what I didn't know was that they changed the first Shield's name to Shield Portable. In the end, they could have come up with better names than Shield Portable and Shield Tablet. ShieldBoy and ShieldVita would have been at least something interesting. :D
Tegra Android Development Pack has been updated to note it can be used to develop for the Shield. If your interested in this Dev Pack, its here: https://developer.nvidia.com/tegra-a...velopment-pack

Shield Console will kill OUYA2 and all the other future microconsoles.
Seems a great work from Nvidia, at a good price.
