BEHOLD THE CHUPACABRA!

Update CHUPACABRA will launch on OUYA this week! Expect a smorgasbord of new features including paid games, audio pass through for XBMC, a new download-management tool, a new purchased-games list, new game details pages, updates to PLAY, bug fixes and more!

They really need to send this information to everybody and not just developer accounts. It never hurts to spread good news to all of your crowd if not the majority of it.

This was more "dev-specific" stuff, I am sure they will make another newsletter indicating the new update as well as their blog

Not to be a butt-hurt, but there's better ways to go about it than that. Just be consistent and inform both parties as they're equally as important. Bah, I can already tell this is gonna be a long day.

I agree. Or at least let consumers know an update is coming and not be so tech talky. I posted it because if I didn't, someone else was going to.

Yeah I see no reason why they just don't post the blog a couple days earlier. Users would like to know these things and have an idea when to expect them.

I have to admit, a lot of this is more important to consumers than devs (XBMC, DL management etc) so to break the news in the dev newsletter is again not ideal seeing as this was obviously going to be revealed on here anyway. Nit-picky of me to point it out, maybe but it helps to have good relations with your whole audience rather than just a part of it.

You know what I mean. People were going to find out before they announce to consumers if they sent the info to devs first, here or elsewhere.

good news for XBMC nice, and funny i was going to suggest purchased-games list like xbox has

Edit something told me the update for xbmc would not fix anything did the official update happen yet because I just updated the Xbmc and nothing and in the other thread people saying it stopped streaming add-ons from working wow

I like the name of the update.

Glad to see the excitement for some of the new features :D And yea, this wasn't a full list of OTA features - just a few items we wanted Devs to be aware of so they could plan ahead. I can see why it feels like we left gamers in the dark though, apologies for that. We're working through the last touches on the OTA and I'll be doing the blog post when it releases (as usual). I just don't like posting a full list until I have a 100% locked down build - just in case things change =)

I hope this purchased games list includes any game we spend money on at all.
Sometimes if I pay in for a game I want a reminder I had some money in it in the first place.

Audio pass through sounds nice but I'd rather have it system wide if it was possible.

I can see the new change to allow paid only games encouraging more releases.
Hopefully the rest of the sonic games and Gameloft games.

However I really really hope this means we'll see Ouya support built into games more and opening up side loading support.
Games like Raven Sword that are available on Ouya but don't support it if purchased elsewhere.
Hopefully this will change and we'll see Ouya support built into all versions.
Worked fine for Time Surfer from the Humble Bundle for instance so no real reason they can't add support already.
Perhaps this will be the change they need to encourage that practice.

All I can say is: blame the devs for not supporting things when purchased elsewhere. They didn't implement the code, so you cannot really expect OUYA's sdk to auto-inject into that.

This update has got my attention especially updates to PLAY and purchased-games list. Consider me excited. Since you are doing some last touches you know how when you enter the system menu on the main screen it always shows ittle Dew, Clarc, and Knightmare Tower? Well, I think it should either show the same recommendations from the last game you played, randomized, the top 3 O-Ranked games, game sales, or something else other than the same recommendations. If you don't have time for that then it's cool but I recommend putting that on your to do list because it can be more useful with recommendations than it currently is since many people put it in sleep mode from the main screen and those recommendations are the first they see when waking it up. Anyway, I appreciate the hard work you put into updates and I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks.

What I would really like is play time records :D
Like an app that tells you how much time I hav spent playing a game, that way I can brag to friends about it :D

That reminds me of something I'm interested in. I'm wanting a list of my most engaging games that is basically my own personal O-Rank in PLAY that puts the games in order based on what I have contributed to the O-Rank. It would be an easy way for my favorites to self organize.

If it's confirmed to have the proper codecs then I'll make an XBMC announcement. Whatever the hell Audio Passthrough is; I like it. Don't know if they're the same thing though so clarification will be appreciated.

Word in the XBMC thread is that the update will enable Audio Passthrough once the firmware update is out. Passthrough allows XBMC to hand off encoded audio streams to TVs and recievers that can to hardware decoding, rather than decoding the audio itself in software. It still won't decode DTS or AC3, but it provides a workaround for folks with a compatible receiver.
