It's been said a lot in this thread, but this is total crap. I will not be purchasing any non "free to try" games. I may not have as much money invested as some, ie kickstarter. But I have spend a lot more on games and OUYA's since release than I have for both of my PS3's when new. I am done spending any more of my money on OUYA until they can get their shit straight.
After reading through this whole thread (phew....) - I still can't shake the underlying feeling that all this decision does is muddy some already very unclear waters.
The OUYA console has been plagued since inception with misrepresentation, consumer misunderstanding (It just plays phone games right??), controversy (Free The Games Fund anyone?), and the promise of games that would come and then disappear into the ether (MineCraft, Human Element, TWD)
The one staple of the console - that everyone (that's consumers AND developers people) knew... 100%... dead certain... was that every game on it was Free to Try.
Now we hear that this is not going to be the case - the goalposts have shifted and added more confusion to a system that only really had 1 defining characteristic.
I can't help but feel that a little piece of the OUYA has died today.
I will be honest. I stopped playing games after the PS1 was released because 9 times out of 10 the game I bought turned out to be horrible. I also only bought maybe 2 or 3 games for my systems prior to that due to their price and lack of knowing what the game is. Since buying the Ouya I have purchased 27 games and I am usually in discover looking for more. For me trying a game first was the reason I went for this system. While I think from a business perspective this is a good move for Ouya to make money, I feel it will out people like me. Most gamers are not like me thankfully so the industry will survive lol. But for me its a sad day as I now begin my wait for another system I can play games on.
But hey still got my NES and Genesis :)
I vote anyone who releases without a demo we give 1 star for being an asshole without trying it. Ill be doing this for every game coming out that doesn't have a demo.
Also Eddie what the hell? If you're gonna support them for going back on their words; breaking the trust of anyone who bakced them on kickstarter; breaking the trust of anyone who read shit reviews about the ouya and bought one anyways; breaking the trust of the developers who are already on the store by changing what's required to enter the market; then I think you and your brother should reasses what it means to work for your customers.
This is not the same company I've supported and defended up to this point. I havnt wasted the last year of my life helping people with their questions so that the company I'm doing it for could turn into a bunch of sell outs who would rather make a dollar then make people happy (which is what they WERE trying to do.) What we have now is any other company who only cares about turning the profit. If you don't feel betrayed by this then you obviously didn't care what the ouya stood for and it was just a cool tech device.
For me the ouya was a whole new way of playing games. Quick, cheap, simple, free to try. Without all of these perks I don't feel like its my job to bust my balls correcting fanboys from other consoles or support you in anyway. All the black hats are going to start coming out of the woodworks now for all of these games that have no demos. Its not hard to fake an authentication that's why nearly every google play app has been cracked and leaked on the internet. I hope ouya knows they just threw up a challenge to anyone who feels like it (which for most black hats the challenge is enough of a reason).
I usually pay for all of my apps on google play because I'm not hurting for money and they are cheap. But with a console version of the game you have to pay infinitely more? AND you still have in app purchases? AND there is no free demo like on the ps3 or xbla?
That's hilarious ouya. You don't have the consumer base, attraction, games, savings, or developers safely on your side to make stupid decisions like this. I've been one of the loudest advocates for buying the ouya to replace anything from an xbox to a work computer but now I wouldn't use it for anything except emulation/xbmc because you took everything good about yourself and decided you would rather be rich.

The biggest reason for me to buy an Ouya was the "try before you buy" principle. The fact that they're now doing away with this is yet another to those who purchased this "system". I received my system 7 months after their Kickstarter promised delivery. My controller was broken, so there's another 2 months wasted before I received my replacement. Now this. Sorry Ouya, but this is the straw, nay bale of hay, that broke the camel's back. Goodbye.
