View Full Version : Let's get a Ouya concepts/designs thread going!

Pictured: My redesign of two major aspects of the Ouya interface.

So I redesigned the search. Got rid of the black vertical rectangle with the list of titles (text). Replaced with high quality marketplace splash images. Beside each title will sit some general information about it. When the list is finished displaying all relevant information, it will aggregate all developers and tags to allow the player to continue his search using a keyword. Also notice that at the top the player can filter his search by game, app, developer, or tag.

The keyboard has been completely redesigned with ease of use in mind. On a console, where the primary source of navigation is a gamepad, a standard qwerty keyboard has never made sense (unless it has motion controls/gyroscope/accelerometer like ps4). This radial keyboard allows the player to simply use the left thumbstick to rotate around the outer ring, and the O button to select letters. When the thumbstick returns to the deadzone, the inner ring is activated. Now the player can press O to space, or any other button to perform the actions associated with them. When the player has finished their search query, they hit the green checkmark. The search sidebar then slides to the left allowing the player to browse through and select a title.

Left Thumbstick - Select letter in outer ring
Left Thumbstick + O - Select letter
Y - Shift for one key
Y (double tap) - CAPS LOCK
U - Delete
A - Back to Main menu
L2 - Cursor left (Not pictured)
R2 - Cursor Right (Not pictured)

Right Thumbstick - Smooth scroll search list (Not pictured)
L1 - Search filter option left
R1 - Search filter option right
DPad - Highlight search result (Not pictured)

We had a few people try to get something done visually like you did here. Looks good.

The ring for the keyboard looks like it would work but it reminds me of this:

Anyone else? I'm curious to see what the rest of the community can come up with.

I created a UI concept when I was on holiday last year. It weren't as good as yours though - still, It's gone now. I may just reopen inkscape and have another go.
